1 -) I had the same problem as you to transfer roms to the SD... via network (wifi) takes many hours to transfer. via Network cable this time drastically reduces, so it can be a solution for you to connect the Raspberry directly to the network cable if possible. I tried the Ubuntu live CD and faced the same problem: it lets me copy, but it does not allow me to write .... I spent an entire afternoon trying commands, but nothing solved. My solution: I found the "Paragon EXTFS" program on the internet that allows you to read linux partitions directly on windows and lets you write them ... all OK now (but this program is paid and requires an "activator" to work without paying ...) 2-) As I only use PS3 controls, I have not had this problem, maybe, reconfiguring your control by setting another key for the "Hotkey" can help
