Graphic card drivers? open/ubuntu propietary

hi i see you add a lot of new graphic card in to the drivers but i think are open linux drivers that drivers work really low under real specs like in windows for example 40 fps Gamecube/wii when in windows have stable 60 fps in all situations.
I know for ubuntu have another drivers propietary it works like windows 95-100% acuracy, its posible to put in batocera this kind of drivers? is linux at the end it works too really?

no. i cannot put proprietary drivers, for several reasons, technicals and legal.

are you sure its not legal? ubuntu is free.
In the other way if continue with open drivers its posible optimize or put one betters? in the 5.3 you add compatibility for nvidia GTX 750 but gc/wii works poor at not stable framerate.

proprietary drivers are distributed outside of the ubuntu, and not with the ubuntu packages.
It requires compilation tools to install them.
In batocera, we cannot really do that.
Note that moreover, it would require to add screen to accept explicitly the nvidia licence, etc...

your wii performances may be related to your low cpu than to the gpu. A very minimum for the wii is a 3GhZ processor. However, some games (wii sports) are playable with a lower cpu.
Do you have the same dolphin configuration on windows and batocera ? it's possible to change it. Compare the dolphin.ini files.

nadenislamarre well i have a i5 2500k 8gb ddr 3 nvidia gtx 750 its more than dolphin needs to work stable.
in windows runs perfect with all range of configs "speaking of stable framerate 60 fps, visual glitches is another thing"

when i do f1 or alt+tab in batocera 5.3 for enter in the dolphin gui i see video configs have very limited options not like windows, and opengl cant change for directx o or other things, dont know what is the problem of this unstable framerate and not so good performance.

If you need when i go to home at night i upload mi dolphin.ini of windows.

nadenislamarre I have a "Intel® Core™ i3-9100T Processor" with onboard grafics "Intel® UHD Graphics 630" and "64 GB" and "opengl 4.5". But i cannot run ps2 games. Do you know why?

yes and i dont understand what is the problem, propietary drivers are not ilegal, simply are propietary, ubuntu includes it and is a free-open S.O.

You dont sell batocera or win money with it, no problem about include Nvidia / Amd drivers for linux, you can include a start screen on first boot with the license or bla bla bla, its not a problem , i think people prefers this instead of cant play newest systems because low fps with a decent/good GPU due poor drivers.

Think about for 5.4 please.

i don't think i will integrated them, for sure not for 5.4 which is ready.
proprietary drivers have a bad integration process; their only advantage is to work better for some cards.
open drivers work very well for most cards and are very well integrated, working out of the box.
i've tried once to use them. My card was a bit old, and thus, the driver worked only in case i had an older version of X11 as far as i've understood.
except if somebody helps me to integrate them, don't expect to get them in a near feature.

then the problem is you need a people who knows how to do it? in that case has good to put advertise in diferents ways for search people who like to help the batocera project or enter on the team.

i got today this grafic card .ASUS Nvidia gforce GTX 1050 Ti Expedition 4 gb gddr5 pci express 3.0 .

And batocera is very slow on the menu , some systems run games at full speed but until i choose the game oh my good realy very slow for batocera .. drives all actualized and still slow .

And me with Intel 980X + 960Ti + 16Go DDR3 and Dreamcast games are more lag than my Pi3 OC lol
But GameCube games are fine (just some lags on Mario Kart)

i've done an nvidia version.
however, i don't think i've the correct hardware,
and i think it requires an xorg.conf to be added.
But all the rest is installed.
to be tested and probably configured by somebody having the hardware to test the correct configuration

this might sound like a terrible idea but how can one implement a menu entry to be added to emulationstation's menu to toggle the bits and pieces of nvidia-settings cli attributes --assign or -a dynamically updating the running instance of batocera onscreen with the appropiate framebuffer/xinit restart??

I suspect a previous nvidia-settings --query all should be run somehow before to populate the new menu with what available options to change.

i guess that the problem is the xorg.conf.

adding something like it in /etc/X11/xorg.conf may help :

i've built an image which is supposed to be correct exception xorg configuration. but while i've not the correct hardware, somebody must take the relay and make test.
i don't think that the nvidia-* config binaries are requires. i will take a look at them, but i guess there are debian specific for debian and built by debian, not nvidia.

nadenislamarre Well, ok. They might not be required. However then how would a user go and be able to set vblank on/off, quality preset performance, fxaa and other gpu feature without the addtional binaries?

@chanchomann first, we must make it work, then, we'll see for optimisations.
however, keep it mind that it must be as much possible userfriendly and working out of the box.
