Hi @nadenislamarre and all Batocera Develop Team, thanks for your great work!
I was wandering if it would be possible to have a recent MAME release (e.g. last 2017 release) implemented once a year in Batocera alongside the "standard" MAME2003.
We may talk about details of that, but what I’m interested in is the idea.
The idea is not to erase the former MAME (and force everybody to update their arcade romsets) every time a new Batocera is released, but just complement the old one with the new one, once a year (or whatever time you like, without having it consuming too often precious Developers’ time). The goal would be allowing who's interested to try new games or recent emulation upgrade on old games, without forcing all the audience to trash their romsets and repeat arcade configuration every time.
If it sounds interesting for you, people could vote for which kind of MAME (advanced? Groovy? Etc.), when to expect the new MAME (every Christmas? Every round number release, etc.).
I think such a feature would definitely allow Batocera to be a step ahead other competitors in the heart of arcade-lovers, showing a pretty unique feature. Note that, to my knowledge, no Retroarch based retrogame OS offers such a feature, so e.g. SHMUPs lovers like me have to move towards GroovyArcade OS or tweak custom linux distro + MAME to play es. Cave SH2-3 games. But such solutions just can’t compete with Batocera in terms of easy installation, configuration and setup process.
Thanks anyway for your time and continuous effort to keep Batocera kicking!
