yes, you're following the recalbox wiki and batocera doesn't work like recalbox under the wood.
under batocera, all user data are in /recalbox/share and a standard user should change only values inside.
to do something at boot, create and fillthe followingfile : /recalbox/share/system/custom.sh
for what you want to do, just downlaod the 5.19 rc1, it is already inside and works out of the box.
