Compile a custom version of batocera-emulationstation

Hi, my name is Ariel Garcia and I am a fan of batocera linux from a long time. Sorry, my english is too bad, my primary languaje is spanish.

I am working on batocera-emulationstation locally on my computer and I made a little modifications on the menu options with personal preferences and I need to integrate the compiled modified version on batocera-linux. I need to compile batocera-linux with my version of batocera-emulationstation.

I also clone the repository of batocera-linux and what I want is to integrate my version of batocera-emulationstation and compile it together with batocera-linux. It is understood? how can I do it?

Hi,

first, you need to compile batocera.linux
https://batocera-linux.xorhub.com/wiki/doku.php?id=en:compile_batocera.linux

once compiled, you can update your rpi image with your build by unzipping the created boot.tar.xz

then, to customize, you can do the following:
- mv output/target output/target_old

edit this line to point es to your version : https://github.com/batocera-linux/batocera.linux/blob/master/package/batocera/emulationstation/batocera-emulationstation/batocera-emulationstation.mk#L19
then rm -rf output/build/batocera-emulationstation-master
then make batocera-emulationstation

or, if your number of modification is low,
directly edit output/build/batocera-emulationstation-master
- then, rm -f output/build/batocera-emulationstation-master/.stamp_built
- then make batocera-emulationstation

and at the end, put the new compiled file (all since target was renamed target_)
- rsync -av output/target/ root@batocera.local
- /etc/init.d/S31emulationstation stop
- /etc/init.d/S31emulationstation start

I have one last doubt.
When you tell me to edit this line BATOCERA_EMULATIONSTATION_SITE = $ (call github, batocera-linux, batocera-emulationstation, $ (BATOCERA_EMULATIONSTATION_VERSION)), what should I put? My modified version of batocera-emulationstation is on my local computer. How should I edit that line of code to point to my local version?

in that case, maybe just directly edit output/build/batocera-emulationstation-master/ to copy your modified files or simpler, just do git diff on a side, and patch on the other side.

I have copied the modified files to the folder output/build/batocera-emulationstation-master/.
Now I need to compile a new image of batocera-linux that includes this version of emulationstation modified to be able to install it on the sdcard of my rpi3.
Inside the batocera-linux folder, should I execute the make command to build a new batocera-linux image with my version of emulationstation?

you can:
1) rm -f output/build/batocera-emulationstation-master/.stamp_built
make
to rebuild a full image, but you will loose time while it takes minutes (> 10 minutes)

2) mv output/target output/target_ if not already done
(do the revert if you want to build the image)
rm -f output/build/batocera-emulationstation-master/.stamp_built => immediate
make batocera-emulationstation => <10 seconds
rsync -av output/target/ root@batocera.local => < 5 seconds

this let you test quickly your changes on the target.
