Cant enable wifi

I bought a Edimax EW-7611ULB wifi thumb stick but I cant get recalbox to connect to the wifi. I've enabled wifi, entered ssid, and entered wifi key. Is this compatable with Odroid XU4, and is there a way to get it to work.

stikoyan I'm having the same issue. Anyone have any ideas? Would it be easier to just plug an Ethernet cable directly into XU4? Thanks!

hi.
it seems that in some case, the connection fails and is not retry.
i've in my todo list to make it more robust.
you can do ifconfig -a via ssh to check wether linux see your device or not.
you can try the key on ubuntu. if it works, it must work on batocera.

Just tried to connect to a hidden SSID that consists of special chars containing brackets like '[' and ']' - didn't work. So maybe there's an issue with encoding / locales / hidden SSIDs in general?
(Connection with an RJ45 cable works perfectly.)

@Redfield can you control that the file /var/lib/connman/recalbox_wifi.config is correctly generated by batocera please ?

Yes, will do it on the weekend and report back to you (I have no access to my XU4 at the moment). I'm also looking forward to playing around with Batocera and the compute sticks that should arrive this week.

I bought a different model without the Bluetooth and it sees this device, but in recalbox it still wont connect

1) can you check the content of the file /var/lib/connman/recalbox.config
2) can you run the following commands :
connmanctl disable wifi
connmanctl enable wifi
connmanctl scan wifi
connmanctl service

and see what happend.

/var/lib/connman/recalbox.config show wifi, my network name, and passphrase

connmanctl services shows my wifi network name listed

if I run connmanctl connect it returns "not registered" message

I having this issue. If the batocera have a "Search WIFI Networks" ... then shows a wifi nears. And ... put passwords and walah, jaja thats simple to say but hard to do... I if know how i will tell you,.

ive tried following the connect to access point instructions, I get to agent on, but when I get the below (I'm using the wifi listed in the article so as not to give out my specific wifi info) after passphrase I get "invalid argument"

I own 2 edimax 7611ULB as well. I've successfully got it to run on a C2 running HK 3.14 kernel and lwfinger's rtl8723bu driver. Said driver is meant to be compiled on mainline kernel, so it required a few changes to both headers and driver. However if you're not familiar with debugging gcc error and ammending code it won't be such an easy task...
When I got my XU4 I was all hype and bought another one, but despite trying for days/hours I gave up. The reason is XU4 is running on HK 3.10 kernel. And a LOT have changed in the linux kernel, regarding wireless networking, between 3.10 and 3.14 (any linux user would remember those changes but not when they occured ahah). And HK's 3.10 kernel relies on a compat tree in order to get their dongles work with modern linux wireless tools. So it isn't impossible, but it would necessitate to change pretty much every includes in every file of the driver... And for sure you'd have to know some things about kernel hacking and compat tree...
I found buying a HK wifi module 4 to be a better faster solution regarding the XU4. trust me 😉

And if you own a c2 I'd be happy to upload my changes from lwfinger's driver to github for you to use, in case you cant correct all the compile errors yourself.
I understand you got yourself another module but It is a great wifi/bluetooth dongle.I hope you'll find a use for it 🙂

yes. i think that invalid argument refer to a driver operation not working, ie, connman try to do a linux call on your hardware, but the driver doesn't support this operation.
can you :
1) run dmesg ; note the last 3 lines
2) reproduce the error message
3) run dmesg ; find the new lines since the one noted in 1)

I was able to solve my problem by changing some options on the router:

In wi-fi settings I left:

Channel: Automatic
Bandwidth: Automatic

This solved my problem .... router TP-LINK WR740N

Sory to bump up old thread. But how can you all of those commands above inside the Batocera Emulator itself? Mind you it got no terminal setup.

note: I’m running the Batocera using my desktop Intel iCore with TPLink USB wifi dongle that cannot connect to anything.
