Batocera crashes at blue logo

Hello, I have installed version 5.20 and the boot works well, but then, Batocera crashes at blue logo. Always.

For your information, I am on AMD 2200G, I start from USB key, and I have tryed both Legacy and UEFI boot without success. I am wondering if some files are missing. My USB partitions are like this, what do you think ? :

Hello, I can confirm that this issue happens with :
- batocera 5.18,
- batocera 5.19,
- and batocera 5.20.

So I am sure it is something not related to a specific version. I have tested Legacy and UEFI with same results and have booted with both 2 partitions with the same result (blue logo crash).

Do you have any idea ? For instance, USB 3.0 connector doesn't work or USB flash drive minimum size ?

Thank you, yes this is what I have done so far without success (see this discussion : prog-amateur )

I don't know what is the problem, I suspect a kernel issue but I am not sure.

PS : if you are french, you can also speak in french to me (it is sometimes easier). So far I answer in english for people who want to follow up this issue. Thank you again.

Simple question : what is the Linux kernel used in Batocera 5.18 to 5.20 ?

The problems in x86 CPU's is the diversity of the systems. If you consider PI3, you know exactly and mostly very quick the reason of your problem.
So, you say that the blue Logo arrive with and starting from your USB stick ? No HDD for the moment ?
You are talking about a Ryzen 3 CPU with Radeon Vega 8 Graphics. Nice formula 1 🙂
It may be that the problem is the Radeon Vega 8 Graphics, I have no idea if there is a driver present in the actual package that can cover this GPU (yet). You may need somebody from the team. Concerning the Kernel, it should be 4.18 (Recalbox +0.14 😉 )

Dragu Thank you very much for your reply ! I'm beginning to understand what may be going on here.

There are actually 2 bugs, which I can reproduce in the same conditions :

the first one if I boot in UEFI, is the same as the one of the Black screen topic: a black screen with batocera written on the top left corner of the screen.
the second, if I boot in Legacy, is the crash of Batocera on the blue logo.

From what you say, Batocera uses kernel 4.18. On my bartop (we can see the assembly here using a Ryzen 3), with a kernel 4.18, it was impossible for me to start almost 9 times out of 10.
Then as soon as I managed to boot without really knowing why, I took the opportunity to update the kernel to 4.19. And now, no more bugs. Ryzen 3 is a good APU to emulate Wii, Gamcube, PS2, and older consoles.

I think this is a very important element to take into account for the dev team, I hope they will come by on this topic in order to verify this information, and make a beta version with a kernel at least higher than kernel 4.19.

Very good. I was reading today that another guy on totaly different software was having such problem also, and it was resolved after he updated bios (perhaps not necessary) and the kernel to 4.18rc3 (version from july18) So this seems to confirm what you just experienced. Dev's also aware of the problem, I told to them.
I agree Ryzen 3 is a nice processor, I just wait for pocket board. For the moment I upgraded to an Beelink X55. Not as powerful but in the size of a Nespi case. But is also a heat story, J5005 is limited to 10W, Ryzen 3 can climb to 100W.
