Using Nvidia legacy driver in batocera

Hello,

As I have not solved my problems with my radeon HD 4870 (see other post) - but I hope to do so ;-) , I would like to use another card that a friend gave to me : an Nvidia GTX550Ti. However the proprietary drivers do not support this card (see below). Would it be possible to use the legacy drivers (390.xx Legacy drivers) available here and how ?

In fact, all users of cards before 600 series would be affected by this issue.

Here is the log :

I gave it a try with my GTX 560 Ti and it hangs at boot "batocera.linux"... The rest of my setup is Intel i3 2120, 4GB, Dell Optiplex 390 motherboard. Even with NvidiaDriver = false gives the same result.

Try not efi boot.
With NvidiaDriver = true, nouveau driver broken at this build (i don't know why).

Yeah, was in legacy mode boot... more details: it hangs at the second « batocera.linux »; the one right before ES should load up...

It means than Xorg not started.
You can switch to console by "Ctrl+Alt+F3" (or connect via ssh), login "root", pass "linux" and look errors in the Xorg log file.

I tested your image with one of my Systems (nvidia ION chipset) and i get following error:
(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)

Guess the driver version is incomaptible with my system and i need this version:

GeForce GTX 560 Ti is on the compatibility list of 390.87.
I can try compile 304.134, but not sure what's with the kernel 4.18 it works.

Yup, confirmed! My 560ti works with "nvidia driver=true" in 5.20. Although I initially had to first launch it "false" in order to fully initialize the first time... Then could switch it to "true".

alexiscrew that error is due to wrong packing. glvnd support in 390.xx is different from 410.xx/415.xx.
You can look at my nvidia-legacy branch for the necessary changes.

Hi,
seems that the latest Nvidia drivers on 5.19 don´t work with my graphic card (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M).
I went back to /boot/recalbox-boot.conf and commented again the "NVIDIA-DRIVER=TRUE" line and at least my MacBook Pro booted Batocera correctly with no black screen.

How can I check if my graphic card is in the compatibility list?
How can I change boot mode (as with Mac Im only able to select Efi boot)?

However, does this mean the drivers are not included in my Batocera version (5.19)??
Im sorry if I ask too much, Im very new to this world and Im trying to understand and investigate on my own as much as I can.

Yes, Batocera 5.19 use nvidia driver version 410.73. It does not support 9* series cards.
But you can use Mesa driver (used by default).

I have a working image of 5.20 with nvidia-390.xx. I am submitting it for some internal testers and will make it public then. Depending on the feedback, I will look into including it in batocera.

Please, don't ask for 340.xx. I don't have the necessary hw to test.
