batocera hangs on install on pc

I've tried installing batocera on a spare dell optiplex 780 (first installing directly onto SSD, then tried USB ). It gets stuck on a black screen with "batcocera.linux" on the top left. Any ideas?

I'm also experiencing this same issue with a Dell Optiplex 780, running either the x86 or x64 builds of batocera.linux 5.20 from two different USB drives.
The latter drive runs fine on my home desktop, neither drive runs on this Dell Optiplex 780.
Have tried numerous BIOS settings to no avail, same issue is that it will display batocera.linux on boot then get stuck on a black screen, no splash is displayed.
Have also tried enabling splash sound in config and never hear it, so not likely to be a video output issue as have tried multiple monitors (using a DisplayPort -> HDMI output)

I had the same problem here when trying to install on an Acer Aspire 5100-3825.

Well, I did everything I could. I even formatted the notebook's HDD to FAT32. Nothing worked. The only way to install Batocera on the HDD was by removing it from the notebook, placing it in an external case or external adapter and connecting it to a PC through the USB port.

That suggests maybe a boot-order issue with my machine?
The machine in the video I linked has no HDD, but this machine I'm using does and it has priority over the USB drive.

I'll have to try that.

A follow up to this.
I used BIOS settings on the Dell Optiplex 780 to disable all SATA devices including an HDD and a CD-Rom Drive, and make the USB Drive top in boot order.
Even in these conditions batocera.linux will not boot from a simple 8gb or 16gb USB flash drive.

RupeeClock did you disable the safe boot settings ? I had to do that with mine and it worked just fine

I've had a good look around in the Dell Optiplex 780 BIOS revision A15, and can't find an equivalent to a Safe Boot setting to disable. There's a fast boot option I can disable, but I've tried that and still cannot boot batocera.linux.

I installed batocera.linux v5.19 x64 to my 16gb USB flash drive, and this successfully booted on the Dell Optiplex 780, and worked correctly as far as I could see.
This suggests a problem with v5.20 on some hardware.

TRY WHIT NTFS ..
for me fat wont boot ntfs like a charm !!!

Some other people had a problem with Core duo.
We had a thread where I suspected that the GPU gma 4500 could be the cause of the problems, it could be that a driver is wrong in the last kernel version or that part of driver is missing. Intels i965_dri.so is present, but the right one ? Could be that i965_drv_video.so is needed also.

Etcher will prepare a USB flash drive as FAT32 by default, I could not find an option to prepare it as NTFS.
So NTFS would require a different installation method than provided on the main site.
