poke Will booting from a pen drive suffice? Or else I'll have to erase the working internal version and install again.

BTW, I also tried booting directly from a pen drive on my ASUS laptop and it shows a splashscreen for a brief moment then loads to a black screen also.

Shockwave did you manage to get boot vanilla batocera with nvidia-driver? Nvidia documentation says it is supported by the 4xx version.

poke Yup, I have it up and running with the stock 5.21 image now no Nvidia settings changed yet. I'm about to run through the update link you posted in response to my original ask-for-help above to see if I can update it that way and activate the Nvidia settings. I checked the Nvidia link and my GTX 860M/750Ti equivalent should be covered.

I would have done it earlier, but just got back in town.

Hi, I have the nvidia geforce GT 730 graphic card and when i enable the nvidia drivers the resolution drops a lot and the not full screen anymore, is the any fix for that? Anyone with the same problem?

I've been trying to get batocera running on my laptop which has a GT 555M and integrated Intel, following the instruction in this post it worked the first time and showed nvidia in the system information however I've only ever been able to get it to work once now it just errors out trying to start ES, I've even reinstalled and gone through again.

So after a lot of messing around with my laptop that has a integrated and discrete GPU it turns out that after booting just simply stopping and starting ES without any other modifications will get it working on the nvidia card showing 4.6.0 Nvidia 390.116 and everything seems to work fine, none of the other edits from earlier in the thread are required.

So I deleted the contents of batocera partition and manually copied the contents of boot.xar to the partition and enabled nvidia driver and I'm greeted again with a black screen blinking cursor.

I have the output of dmesg like you asked but it's way too big to paste here, so I uploaded it, please take a look:

Also if I try to run emulationstation manually from ssh here's what I get:

lvl0: Error initializing SDL!
No available video device
lvl0: Renderer failed to initialize!
lvl0: Window failed to initialize!

If I disable nvidia driver, same issue.

With the "official" download, enabling orr disabing the nvidia driver same thing, black screen.

This sucks balls, the only image that runs on my computer correctly is 5.21, I really don't get it. If only the normal update worked.

Updating from 5.20 to 5.21, no issues whatsoever.

5.21 to 5.22, "not enough disk space" pain in the ass.

Ok so here's an update, after reading about people with the same problem with previous versions I tried startx through SSH and it started working.

So here's the deal:

When I boot up I get the loading screen saying: Loading system config then suddenly screen turns black with a flashing cursor

I type "startx" on through SSH and it starts working normally.

Any fix for this other then having to type startx each time I boot?

I feel like i'm talking to myself here, but anyway, I believe 5.22 is still a bit buggy, it's this issue, it's when you press F1 to enter the file manager the mouse cursor is invisible making it practically useless, for some reason I lost sound and no matter what setting I tried in or out of alsamixer it wouldn't work, had to reinstall the boot files to get it working again.

I think since I can't find any solutions/fixes anywhere about this issue I'm forced to stick with 5.21 which never gave me any issues after a few tweaks. Too bad I won't ever be able to have this version working on my own, maybe future 5.23 version will work ok for me, otherwise I'll be stuck on 5.21 unless I get different hardware. 🙁

This version is too raw, now random crashes. When I connected a second controller it crashed immediately, then I was playing a game and it suddenly crashed again.

Since I'm getting no assistance here I'm rolling back to 5.21 and staying there.

Tried a different nvidia graphics card and it still crashes X when beggining to load roms. This sucks...
