To empty the trash, manually go to
\batocera\share\system.local\share\Trash
(via FTP)
or
\recalbox\share\system.local\share\Trash
(in the F1 File Manager)
and delete all files there.

There seems to be a bug in the F1 file Manager that makes going to the Trash via menu impossible.

I went into F1 menu. Then I showed hidden folder with Ctr + H. Then I followed: \recalbox\share\system.local\share\Trash

There, I found the files that I deleted and then I deleted it again absolutely. Now, I've got the space in my USB. Thank you very much!!! Now, the only thing that I need to enjoy Batocera is to know how to play online with multiplayers. Any idea?

Kugelblitz I did your second suggestion. I went to the folder and this time, I was able to open the trash bin folder without any hassle. I found all the files that I deleted right there. I selected all the files and right click. I don’t have a “delete” option. Instead, I have a “send to trash bin” option. The problem is that as soon click that option, all the files disappear and reappear in the same folder because “I’m in the trash bin folder” Duh. So I’m in a loop situation.

I tried booting Ubuntu and navigate the Batocera USB to the Trash Bin folder as root with nautilus. I was able to delete all the files. They indeed disappeared, but the free space didn’t increase. There was no change in the SHARE size. I rebooted Ubuntu and did the same steps again. I found no files in the trash bin but I don’t have any free space. I deleted 8 GB from the trash bin folder, but somehow it still there. Maybe the files went to another location. I think this is a bug.

Psyfurius This is strange, I was always able to Delete the files in trash this way. Sorry, I can't help if it does not work on your machine for whatever reason.

Finally I found solution. 1st, you need other device like usb pen drive or portable hard disk. Go to F1 page, Plug your drive to your pc, the drive will appear. Now go to Trash and cut all not use file and paste to your usb pen drive or portable hard disk. Now your batocera will get more space to use. Hope you get help.

Sorry to necro this, but I’m having the same problem and it seems the trash folder has moved since the last reply as I can’t find it anywhere. I’ve tried searching using both PuTTY (with the Linux “find” command) and WinSCP - as well as Batocera’s own file manager. For what it’s worth, I have Batocera installed on an old laptop, not a USB or Raspberry Pi.

Edit: I have no wish to re-install Batocera to fix this as I have over 20,000 games which would all need copying again.

Retro-Jack Same problem here, never thought I’d create a mess by using the trash can. How can we delete those files?

Edit: I finally found the trash in Batocera 32: /media/SHARE/system/.local/share/Trash

jul059 Well, found the deleted files in the directory you noted (/media/SHARE/system/.local/share/Trash) and deleted them from there, but that did not recover the hard drive space. It still acts as though the files were never deleted. Now what do I do? I am getting the sneaking suspicion that I need to start completely over again. This seems to be a huge bug in Batocera’s implementation.

monty0000 I have not had this problem. Deleting files in that folder completely recovered the space. Unlike you, my hard drive was not completely full. Sorry, can’t help you any further.
