To empty the trash, manually go to
\batocera\share\system.local\share\Trash
(via FTP)
or
\recalbox\share\system.local\share\Trash
(in the F1 File Manager)
and delete all files there.
There seems to be a bug in the F1 file Manager that makes going to the Trash via menu impossible.

having the same issue, I've not been able to find the batocera share folder with trash in it either.

I'm still unable to add anything more to the directory, still states not enough space despite there being 60+ gb worth of free space to do so, I can remove roms but not add, does anyone have a suggestion or will I need to just reload the OS?

It is not an Issue, the only option we have to delete file when we click on right mouse, it is to move file to trash. If you want to delete it, you need to go in the upper menu edit and you will find the remove file from disk.

All is done from the file from Batocera, you need to press F1 from menu and you will be redirect to linux browser.

I know this is almost 2 years old, but I’m having this problem now. I’ve tried to copy directly from an external USB and a network drive and if I do any more than about 5 roms at once, I get the “Not enough space” error. This is a brand new installation on a 750GB HDD I’m trying to copy to. Is there any reason for this at all?

This is still happening with the later version of the Batocera. Checking the Trash does not really show many files in there that would clean up enough space to allow the installation of a new version of the image. The sad thing is that I have plenty of free space on my drive. I currently using a 1TB nmve drive.

This is actualy a BIG issue.
The disk is fixed at 256.0M in a 1.5TB disk

no, by removing that line on the Conf file, the share partition will be enlarged. this will help bisk8s with his issue

to enlarge the boot partition you have to use something like gparted for example. this is a different issue: from version 5.27 to 29 or 30 the boot partition had to be increased in size, because of more and more features that had been implemented in batocera. but this bigger boot partition is only on a fresh new install of 29/30 and if you upgrade from an older version, where the boot partition was smaller, you have only two ways: 1. backup your share partition and make a fresh new install and copy back all your files to the share partition. 2. use a tool like gparted to manually increase the size of the boot partition.

Open /boot/batocera-conf.

Uncomment the line #autoresize true.

Reboot the system and batocera will resize you HD.

So I’ve fixed the issue here.

You will need some CLI-JUTSU to solve it.

Steps:

Resize the partition using parted (https://www.tecmint.com/parted-command-to-create-resize-rescue-linux-disk-partitions/)
Format it to ext4 using mkfs.ext4
restart

I know I’m late to the party but here’s what I found if you moved files to trashcan you can find them by going to this path

/userdata/system/.local/share/Trash/files

Mark all of the files that you find here and then click on the “edit” tab at the top then click on “Remove”

You will then be asked if you want to delete these file just accept it and its done. you will have freed space.

Hope this helps anyone else struggling with this issue.
