Since Batocera is Linux based, it is possible, but it would be very hard to pull off. Steam needs quite a few dependencies (libraries) and it is designed as a desktop app first. It might be possible to auto start it in Big Screen mode and have it work in a way similar to Kodi does now. If someone wanted to volunteer their time to make it work, I don't think the team would reject such a patch.

laxdragon Kodi also uses a lot of dependencies, so I don't see why it would be any harder to integrate than Kodi. As far as wine is concerned, steam will take care of that itself via proton as it installs it's own wine prefixes under steamplay. It pretty much takes care of updating itself once the binaries are installed in my experience. https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Steam_under_Linux#Native_Steam_on_Linux show that it needs make install on unpackaged versions. I'd rather not have to dual boot and have everything under one build.

I think in this case, perhaps better solution to integrate Wine, because Wine has a Steam api.
But in general, now alot of people use X86 Cpu, and it is obvious that you can under this conditions
easily install Batocera + Windows in double boot, what I did 2 times. Perhaps the best solution.

It must be a lot of work.
But I would love to have Batocera + Kodi + my Steam + Mugen games on one support. =)
On a small Intel Nuc, it would be nice to take it everywhere to play with your friends.

I am not totaly sure that steam is needed inside Batocera. If you speak about Nuc, I have an Gemini X55 with double boot Batocera+Win10. So in this case I would found more easy to use steam directly inside Windows. And honestly I would prefer that before planning further integrations to resolve the existing problems on recent integrated emulators. 😉

I agree with that. But why not in the future it could be useful.
But indeed, for the moment the most important thing is to focus on the current emulators and the Batocera interface. Everything in its time 😉

Concerning steam, for non x86 platforms it could perhaps be interesting to add WINE. Because over WINE you have an option on steam also and other possibilities. Just I personnaly think that with the new Intel processors, also in the future, this platforms run high risk to mostly disappear. Imagine PI4 with 1600mhz and added Brexit taxes, very small outlook. I would say, too late.

As for me, I play on a PC. I probably intend to get an Intel Nuc.
And I think this platform is perfect for retrogaming while remaining on a very small PC. It is larger than a raspberry but still contained in the format. So running emulators + Mugen games with Batocera would be great.
I saw that Kodi was entering the emulators, I don't know what it's going to bring.

Could be a good idea if you arrive to make it work. Problem are such small games like "Super Mutant Alien Assault" that just run under steam. And PS Vita. (discontinued)

Dragu I mean use the gcc/gnu toolchain to install steam. the steam installer script in the tarball needs make install, etc to work.

It is obvious that the team takes contact with him, no reason to invent wheel twice.
The most interesting in WINE is, as I was always saying : There are so much games where at a certain moment the developping company switched from dos to pure windows. And all this games are not existing on your game console, but on your PC. Not really a solution. Also because not all run Batocera on a x86 platform.

With new firmware and good cooling it is able to hit 2 GHz,
Whe should better look out for Android-Emulation (much more games).

I dont need PI4, but agree that this Reichelt price is attracting.
Now that I changed the Mame console and Bartop both to J5005, I am satisfied.
And in my pocket Freeplay CM3, should be powerfull enough for a pocket ES.
Interesting, the CM3+ has not more power as the CM3 without +, they had issues
with the heat. And I think just no reason to produce it. The long awaited CM4 risk
under this circumstances to never see live.

At the moment I am very excited about the Waveshare Game HAT for the RPI3.
On the basis of the version 5.21 I am currently building a nice handheld.
Over 30 systems have already fitted properly.
Last I adjusted the Dreamcast control and adjusted the PiGRRL theme for Emulation Station.

The stick "push" button is connected to PIN 5 - GPIO 3 …

I have some doubt if he can reach 60fps in 3D games as Quake with the normal waveshare drivers. And exactly for this I compiled my own version of the fbcp-ili9341 driver, much more speed as he only updates changed parts of the screen in the memory. I think more big is the resolution, more visible is the effect.

the display is connected with a hdmi adapter
the GPIOs are for buttons only (i use adafruits retrogame driver for remapping)
physical displayresolution is 480x320 (able to handle fullhd)
