Older GPU Support

Hi I'm new to Batocera and Linux in general but I've built PC's before. Recently I got an ancient Windows 7 machine (HP a4313w) from a relative and wanted to turn it into a Batocera tower. I've been reading that GPU support matters on how Batocera runs and whether it lags just in the menus before actually playing anything. Right now the tower is running Batocera 5.21 from it's internal HDD using the integrated (and severely lacking) NVIDIA 6150SE nforce 430 graphics. Surprisingly it runs smooth in the menus but games are another story. So far I've tested out some SNES games and I'm finding it difficult to get a consistent 60 fps on 1366x768 res (I got an old monitor with the computer, so far it only has VGA out so I'm forced to use it). I've decided to upgrade the CPU and GPU but wanted to stay within $100. My GPU choices are going to sound really underwhelming but I'm trying to stay within sub $50 since the Phenom II CPU I chose is also $50. Basically I want to know whether a NVIDIA GT 710 would be a better GPU choice rather than a AMD Radeon R5 240. The R5 is more powerful but if it isn't supported in Batocera then everything runs like hot garbage right? If it's not then the Proprietary NVIDIA driver would help the GT 710 I assume. Basically I want a card that will run GameCube games at 60 fps on either the 768 or a 1080p monitor I also have. Thanks

I ended up getting a AMD Phenom II X4 840 and a used GTX 650 ti 2GB off of ebay.

gs82139 How does that configuration work? I have a Phenom X6 and I also want to buy a cheap used graphic card. My intention is to run gamecube, ps2, dreamcast and wii games.

Well I actually ended up buying a used GTX 650 Ti on eBay which I've been fortunate to work so far. My biggest issue so far has been getting sound to work since enabling the NVIDIA driver via the recalbox-boot.conf file. I had onboard NVIDIA graphics on my mobo. Nforce something or other. And since enabling the NVIDIA driver I can't get my audio out of either the back IO or front headphone jack, and the only port on the GPU that has any audio capabilities is a Mini HDMI port which I'm not using. Chances are this is an issue with my hardware since I'm using a cheap, crappy prebuilt HP PC with a whole host of incompatibility issues. If you have a more compatible MOBO with a much more robust BIOS than mine you shouldn't have my issues I'm sure. I'm going to try and buy a cheap USB Audio adapter on Amazon and see if I can get sound from that instead. I got the GPU on an auction $41.00 US used.so far I can run GameCube games at 3x internal res (1080p) pretty stable but it depends on the title. For instance Mario Kart Double Dash runs better than Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness for me
