I will not tell you that the nagging screen on 2003+ is boring, I am not alone.
I will also not tell you that button X and A are inverted, I think you know.
What you want to know, what games have problems in 2003+.
As example for "SPACE GUN" (Taito) the mirror shader is not working anymore, game not playable.
As example for "STEEL GUNNER" game cursor is not moving with the joystick cursor. You just shoot
hole in the middle of the screen. Same thing for "STEEL GUNNER 2" so both not playable.
Now, I have not the time to test all mame games on compatibility.
The same way as F2 and TAB are not working anymore in 2003+, means cheats also not and for result
no possibility anymore for endless ammunition and so on.
Perhaps all this is possible, but I just want to play from time to time this games, not spend my time
on the emulator.
The list is for sure longer, but I think there are little Mame user on this site.

This kind of information I needed, I will be analyzing these games.
The emulators that have been removed can be re-inserted without any problem and we are in a test version what is for this kind of thing.

Could it be that you also dropped mame2016 ? (0174) As I dont see it on the list for X86.
I have a few games that I just arrived to start with this version, "Invasion The Abductors", "Crypt Killer", and "Carnevil" from what I have installed as shooting games.

There are only 2 solutions. Stay and live with necessary mame versions, or drop everything.
I was also already thinking at a pure pc solution. I am just asking me, what should be in this
"lightgun" section, I can't imagine.

If you really want to play Arcade Games, get a seperate machine (PC or Mac) and install current (!) MAME. Old hacked MAME versions are really idiotic, because the situation is so different between Arcade Games and Console Games. For most consoles you have a "standard" emulation option that works for almost every game published for that console. On Arcade every game is different, needs different emulation. You do not have console games that require a 10 year old hacked version of the emulator because the emulators past it would run the game BETTER but unfortunately have not been backported to the ARM architecture.
Maybe Batocera should throw MAME out completely on RPI/Arm architectures. If there is a stable, updated FBNeo build this could go in as "the" arcade emulator, even if that reduces the number of Arcade games supported, but then at least they are supported well in ONE emulator.

Dragu Below is the explanation of @lbrpdx about the lightgun section, which he wrote in an other forum post.

"Lightgun" explanation: there is now a new section "Lightgun" in the EmulationStation systems if you put your roms in /userdata/roms/lightgun. It uses older versions of MAME that have been tested as compatible with a DolphinBar and a Wiimote - and it's most probably also compatible with other lightgun systems that are seens as a mouse by the system.

Ok, I was missing this one. but "older versions of MAME" is confusing, what versions ?
So, if you keep mame2003 (older version) or mame2010 (older version) or even mame2016 (not so old version)
for one section of the roms, why not to keep them in general also for humble mame ?
Now, I dont know who is @lbrpdx, and what he tested. Has he another name in Recalbox or in an similar forum ?
Or is he just a new guru ?
I have good will, I just order 1kg of Bergamotes de Nançy 🙂 It can just be food that I dont arrive to understand french mentality 😉

Dragu It's in https://github.com/batocera-linux/batocera.linux/blob/master/package/batocera/emulationstation/batocera-es-system/es_systems.yml you can see that the systems used for lightgun are MAME 2003 Plus and MAME 2010. The newer version of MAME changed the way mouses are handled, and DolphinBar/WiiMotes do not work any longer. Probably fixable, but needs more investigation (and I've had trouble with even loading ROMs for light gun with the latest MAME version we embed, but might be a ROM issue). Why a new section? Because for those games, you might want to use another device than the other "mouse-driven" games (for example, I use a trackball for Marble Madness, Arkanoid etc...). Potentially having a different bezel for light guns too.
I am not a new guru by any means, we've had a few exchanges in the past, Dragu, and I am not on Recalbox or any other similar emulation-related forum. I've done some code for Batocera recently. That's it. And I test with what I have, in that case here, a DolphinBar and a WiiMote. It might just work with other light guns that are seen as a mouse pointer under Batocera Linux, but I have not tested any other combination.

During my time at Recalbox, we wrote a few treads about lightguns also together with @acris and a few other and finally we advanced very good to use most buttons of the wiimote together with the Dolphinbar. They are not all dummies there.
So it would perhaps be interesting to talk about in a separate thread and extend the subject.
I dont agree on the search of new/old versions because they are complementary and not better or worser. Taking some mame versions out of the package is like cutting through the rain forest and ignoring the consequences. And most people that take this decisions (I know 2, both from the Lumber Inc.)) have never really worked on the subject. Mame2003 allows much more options through the integrated configuration as allows mame2003plus through retroarch. And you can configurate much more buttons from Wiimote that are working, not only the traditional mouse buttons.
If somebody arrive to make "The Abductors","Cryptkiller","Carnevil" and some other run on mame2003+ or mame2010, I will not complain about the dropping of mame2016.
Again, you cannot say that one is better as another. To run most roms you need minimum this 4.
Some shooting games will perhaps never run on arm emulators, as for the moment, house of death 1 + 2, rail chase 2 and so on. So, you need to continu trying.
But perhaps susan is right that I should turn to Retropie again. I stopped Recalbox at version 18/07/13 for my Freeplay GBA, today a black market download. And I was not the only one. Perhaps Batocera 5.21 will also be my last version for the NUC, as it has all the necessary for a mame shooting gallery. 🙂

Hello can you intertwine snes 9x 2005 + (Plus) its could delete 9x snes 2002 and 2005 which are really obsolete.

Snes 9x 2005 + offers better accuracy without being greedy and greater compatibility for example hagane does not work with the normal 2005.

Snes 9x 2002 very optimize ARM architecture but very bugs, super mario kart works badly on this heart.

Snes9x 2005 + exists in linux version for retroarch.

It can be the same event with mame 2003 normal and its version more.

You did great work on the features or update, you do not hesitate to delete everything that is obsolete, there is just to improve the levels of the features of the theme to be sumum and thus give more freedom to the creators of themes.

Batocera is a young asseda distribution that has the biggest potential.

@lbrpdx @Dragu I don't have any light guns to test and so I had a question, is lr-mame2003 more efficient for light guns games than lr-mame2003-plus?

I had no game that was not running on mame2003, but on mame2003+. But as you know, difficult to test all mame games because there are a lot. Concerning the configuration, in mame2003 you have access to the F2 for service menu and Tab/R2 for internal menu. Use is not only to change configuration, but to enable things like cheat. Or DIP-Switches. And cheat is very important in Mame, for this reason : In general alot of games stop shooting when your magazine is empty. Often you can solve by shooting outside from the frame, what reloads your gun. Mostly, you are dead before. In cheats you can fix things like unlimited ammunition. Its not really cheating, but very important for the gameplay as an autoload feature. You must understand, Mame games were made mostly to pull the money out of the pocket from the player.
So, as I understood, cheats are not working in mame2003plus, about 1 year ago. Also Taico mirror shader for this
special cabinets work in mame2003. Not at this moment in mame2003plus.
Finally also, if susan want to drop, he will do it. So no reason also to spend on my side big time on this. I will for myself always find a solution. 🙂

Dragu I have never used any DIP-switch "cheat code" (and was not aware of that difference between 2003 and 2003 plus, TBH). From my tests I can't recall any game that would not work with 2003 plus but with 2003, jdorigao.

Try perhaps to run just one game, I mean "Spacegun", what is more or less some game as Alien 3, The Gun. This with mame2003+ and mirrored correctly. I am not allergic against mame2003+, but somebody should show me the advantage. mame2003 minimum is stable, as no brico-center is modifying it. 🙂 That is also an advantage, that your games runs over time the same good as before with no new introduced bugs. I can live with bugs when I profit from some advantages. But to have not more as in basic mame2003, no reason for me. Anyway there are enough complains on the web about what was working before and not after. But, as I told, I tested this 1 year ago, so perhaps some things changed.

Recalbox has chosen to integrate a standalone emulator (IR-snes) to correctly run the super nintendo on the gpi box with a Pi Zero W that is greater than a Pi 1.

In my eyes not necessarily the best choice that Recalbox has done.

Snes9x 2005 (+) more turns very well on the hardware type snes mini which is inferior to Pi Zero W ,.

KMFDManic for the mini snes9x recommends Snes9x 2005 + (more) for its integration of retroarch for the mini snes of more it is a heart libreretro easier to integrate than a standalone emulator.

For an inexperienced user it will not make the difference with other hearts more accurate.

Snes 9x 2005 + (Plus) offers equivalent compatibility at snes 9x 2010, will be less greedy and beneficial for the temperature of a box confining type gpi case.

In my eyes 9x 2002 and 2005 normal have had their time on Pi 1 and the material has evolved.

I understand that we must not cut ourselves off in terms of material and of course shared his knowledge with other distributions (Batocera, Recalbox & Retropie, Lakja) while developing his own style or freedom of development premium on a sterile war.

Batocera is young, she needs to grow with a community that will strengthen with time but with the can of lived compared to other distribution, she is so nice used on a daily basis.

Dragu One of the main reasons for the exchange is that the maintainers are leaving lr-mame2003, the last commit was on Apr 26, 2019 out of 832.
Lr-mame2003-plus has received almost daily commits from a total of 2472.

Another option could be (and not just for mame) to integrate WINE into Batocera. As I read, it is existing for Buildroot. This would allow mame32++ to run and I bet open some new horizons to the package. As also Windows games would be possible. You have alot of dos games that run pretty well under dosbox, and at a certain moment the game company moved to windows, what makes it difficult to have the full collection together. As example the 3D pro pinball games "The Web","Timeshock!","Big race in USA", run best, but not "Fantastic Journey" needing Windows.
This is just one example, there exist a lot. Same for the Duke Nukems where Manhattan Project also just running under Windows. I managed to install Windows95 under Recalbox on my PI3, but when it came to directx, it was a dead end. But I managed to run the lemmings window games.
WINE could be a valuable plus for Batocera.
