Batocera 5.22 crashes on bootup x_64

Hi, I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with a xeon x3363 processor 4Gb Ram and a GTX730 GPU

Up until 5.21 everything was working fine, but on 5.22 emulation station crashes on startup. I have to type startx for it to work.

I've tried the latest 5.23 beta but it's doing the same.

It seems you dont have enough space on boot partition to start Batocera. At some point the size of the boot partition has been made larger. I think due to this it does not boot. Wipe the drive and install fresh rather than updating.

I wanted to say 'You can also turn off auto update. That might help.' but it seems you already done that.

looks like a corrupted system.
don't worry, on the card, you've 2 parts, the system (batocera) and the data (roms).
just do a manual upgrade as in the wiki. if it is space issues, remove boot/batocera file first.

nadenislamarre I have been updating that way, I usually go into the "BATOCERA" partition, erase the content and copy the the boot files to the partition. I've tried this enumerous times but I have to keep going back to 5.21 to make it work again.

When I try updating through the updater it always says there's not enough space, that's why I have to delete the contents of the partition and copy the files. But 5.22 and 5.23 beta throws the same error.

BZZ I haven't made the SHARE backup yet, I had left it copying while I was at work, but the system must have crashed as I had to do a startx again and it hadn't copied all the files...

I'm rolling back to 5.21 and try to backup again as it seems more stable for me.

Yes, wiping everything and reinstalling fixed the issue. It seems that 5.22 makes a 3Gb boot partition while previous versions made a 2Gb, maybe that's why those errors showed up.

Since I wiped the hard drive and I wanted a windows 10 dual boot option, I searched about it and found BATOCERA HD EDITION which I followed the steps and made life so much easier, don't even have to make a seperate partition for Batocera.

Seems like everything is working fine now. 🙂

...or so I though, after copying back the roms and bios, it's now stuck at the "booting 'BATOCERA-HD-EDITION' "

BZZ There are videos about it on youtube.

Basically you can boot a batocera image without making a new partition.

You install grub2win and you create a folder \batocera on the root of your drive, you put the batocera img file and their gz file in the same folder. They also have a pre-configured grub.cfg file you have to edit to point towards the path of your image file. When booting your computer you choose between win 10 or the batocera image and it will boot it.

I thought I had everything sorted out until I restored my roms and activated the Nvidia driver then it wouldn't boot the image anymore.

I'm getting a second hard drive so I will have win10 on one drive the batocera on the other. Maybe then I can finally dual boot.

Never thought it would take such an amount of effort to simply dual boot both systems. Ugh...
