Configuring Emulationstation

Hey guys, new to the forum! I know this has probably been answered before so you'll have to excuse me.

Having a bit of an issue with my PSX roms that are in the .cue/.bin format. Emulationstation seems configured to read bins in this distro as seperate games.

Can someone guide me how I can access the es_systems.cfg file and delete the .bin and .BIN entries? I understand I may need to ssh in to it but I must admit I'm not very good using commandline.

Have this running off a 16gig USB drive attached to a spare computer through a wired connection.

this is a feature, not a bug ;-)
this is not customizable easyly without basic linux knowledges.

Ok maybe I should rephrase that.....Can someone give me a hand on lifting the read-only privileges on the es_system.cfg file? The password is recalboxroot, right? If I know the root password, why won't it give me root privileges?

Ssh is a little advanced....I have very basic command line knowledge to update and upgrade packages in a traditional Linux OS but buildroot is a bit different in how it handles things it seems....

Is there a wiki I could follow to figure this out? I'm willing to learn

I would also like to add if I update, will it overwrite this modification? If I could provide an opinion on this.....could the ".bin" and ".BIN" just simply be removed all together from Emulationstation in future releases? I know you said this was a "feature" but I see no benefit in it being there as many people's psx collection are in the .bin/.cue format. If user friendliness is the goal of this project, I see this being a very frustrating hurdle for newcomers. Just my 2 cents

Anyways, thank you for your work on Batocera! People looking to repurpose their old x86 hardware really appreciate your efforts! 🙂

@Pendragoon the fact is that some people only have the .bin. thus, i've no good solution to make it works perfectly for everybody. the @caxs solution looks great.

i had the same problem. don't like to see the bin files showing up. when i gets home i will write down how i edited the cfg file and what programs i used. Right now i can tell you with a windows computer i uses putty and WinSCP.
1 start up batocera
2 find the ip address of recalbox
3 hook up a keyboard to batocera and press f4. this will close emulationstation
4 on the pc open putty and enter the ip address, then use "root" as user and "recalboxroot" as password
5 mount batocera with "mount -o remount, rw /boot" keep putty running
6 open WinSCP on the pc. logg in with the ip address of batocera and user name "root" password "recalboxroot"
7 Display hidden files in WinSCP - . Click on the "view" menu (or "options". In the preferences window, click on "Panels" on the left menu. Uncheck (or check) the "Show Hidden Files" box to show or hide the files.
8 go to the root of batocera
9 click the recalbox folder
10 open share _init folder
11 open system folder
12 emulation station folder
13 then edit systems .cfg file remove the .bin .BIN in the psx selection.
14 save the file
15 what i also do is make a copy of this file (download it) and place a copy into the share/system/emulationstation folder.

I am writing this up from work, Only going by what i remember so some of the steps maybe slightly different.
Wish there was a way to hide the .bin files also. its a pain to always go in and change the file. i have about 150 psx roms. when the .bin files are being shown batocera show up as having about 1200 roms files. Tomb raider is bad as it shows that i have over 60 bin files that that rom uses.

hi thanks for the trick , i will teste this way cause i cann add systems on es_system.cfg but dont run the games , i du that on external HD 3TB and alocate the emulationstation folder without es_system.cfg . i just created one and add the snesh and the theme but the games dont run 🙁

that was my snes hack config .i just copie the lines from the original and changed some parameters like snesh and roms path .

nadenislamarre Hello friend, how do I add another core in fba_libreto? I would like to use fba2012 because it runs 100% all games cps1 2 and 3. in which folder should the emulators "cores"

What is the problem? Just convert in a iSO file.

Open .cue with IsoBuster, he wil add all files .cue + Bin or other contain in cue file
After click on the root (CD) > Click right with your mouse > Extract CD Image > Chose RAW/ISO > and chose name of your ISO

It's done !
