Strange behavior with 5.23

Hello !

before leaving for holidays, I installed 5.23 beta 1 and it worked perfectly with almost all roms except dreamcast... I come back from holidays and no roms are working anymore (black screen and back to game selection screen)... We had some Airbnb guests at home but I don't know what the could have done... I made a new SD with batocera 5.23 beta 2 but it doesn't work better. All my roms are on a usb stick and the bios are still in the folder... Could you give me some ideas to explore ?

Maybe one of them broke something?
I would try a fresh new install from scratch on another fresh formatted SD-Card. If then the games still do not work, then maybe your RPi is broken and i would test with another one.

Or maybe your USB thumb drive or the USB-Port of the RPi is broken? I would first test without USB drive (only SD-Card). If it works without the USB, then you know the cause.

Did you do a new clean install or did you install on existing system ? I've seen that if someone goes in and updates actual emulators. Best is to keep them as they are delivered with Batocera. When you say 'all roms' do you mean that any system is not working or particular one with some roms you have tried ? Usually recommendation would be to get bios files but you said you already have them.... What is your system? As in what machine is Batocera on?

BZZ Thanks for your answer ! I downloaded the last version of the 5.23 and burned it to a new SD card. I assume that my problem comes from my USB key with the roms... Maybe my guests tried to update by mistake but my Pi was not linked to internet... Batocera is running on a pi3B+ and I tried to run several roms on different systems without any success (at least Mame, FBA, SNES, N64, Megadrive). Those roms were working before.

PLUSDEGO Were you on the same version before ? If you have a little time you can get 5.22 and see if roms work. Sorry for fast reply, little time today ;/

I will try with 5.22 and let you know... I was on 5.23 beta 1 and reinstalled on 5.23 beta 2

I installed 5.22 but it's not working better. It seems that I have a problem with the roms and/or the bios and/or Emulstation... when I take some roms from my USB stick and copy them to the Batocera SD, it works. Any idea ?

I would say re-download all bios files.... Unfortunately it is not allowed on forum to share them 🙁

So you only have problems with starting your games, when they are on the USB stick and not on the internal SD card where Batocera is installed?

You could also test with an older version like 5.19 for example:

And could you give some game names as example? i would like to try to reproduce your issue

Sorry, this might be a totally wrong answer but it reads like you have the BIOS on the SD and the ROMs on the USB. This does not work. If you switch Batocera to using the external drive, EVERYTHING but Batocera itself needs to be on the external drive (also Saves and so forth) - also the BIOS files. So have you copied the BIOS over to the USB? Yes, you need them TWICE if you switch back and forth.

Hello ! Thanks for your answer. The bios are on the USB stick. I tried to download the last bios and installed them but it didn't work better. I also tried with the preinstalled bios of Batocera but with the same result.

So what is your exact problem right now? Which version of Batocera do you use? When you are using 5.23.... this is still a beta or RC and not finished yet (so it still may have some bugs and nadenislamarre is about to fix those in the moment, so please be patient and wait for the final version).
Could you please answer my questions? (Which systems/games do not run? Only dreamcast games or also other systems? Please name a few examples).

Also: Did you check "Game Settings", "Missing BIOS", if there are BIOS files listed?

It is hard to help, if you do not give clear and detailed information about your problems.

Hello. Thanks a lot for your help ! I tried with 5.22 and the last version of 5.23. No bios are missing in the menu except Amstrad I think. No games are working.

Well then i can not help you. Because for me (and many others) 5.22 works on Pi3 without problems.
Otherwise there would have been many more people reporting issues.

PLUSDEGO check the config file and see if you have syatems config seprate. You may need to modify batocera config at bottom that fixed mine.
