Get roms on a NAS

Hi,
I have updated my pc x64 to last version of Batocera 5.23 (by the way, I love it), also I have changed my USB with roms that I had in a NAS Qnap to a NAS Synology.
In Qnap I didn't have problem to connect through smb1, but in Synology I can't connect at any way, I have followed the tutorial:

I have tried through by nfs and It didn't connect.
Any idea?

Hi Robert,

Once you have installed Batocera, you must open the HDD, open the file batocera-boot.conf and follow instructions. of course, you have to have the NFS enabled into the NAS.

thank you for your reply. But I already tried the wiki thing (very often). I even opened a own thread here:

But unfortunately nothing works. I really tried every variation from the guide above. (In recalbox it worked at the first try with smb…) Do you have any Idea? ;)

Hi,
I think that you haven’t given permissions to the folder.
In NFS, You have to give the pc’s ip that can connect.

Hello again,

Today I could try it, but still nothing… Permissions are set like in your example. The Raspberry Pi 4 always gets the same IP: 192.168.66.118

I tried 4 different version of the lines in the batocera-boot.conf.

With “/mnt” and “nfsvers=1” - Nothing changed…

Could you please take a look into your batocera-boot.conf and show me, what you added there?
Do you also use a raspberry pi 4? If you are using another device I really think, that it is a big bug with Batocera on the Raspberry Pi 4. Unfortunately nobody was replying to my other thread. ☹ Thank you anyway.

I have one last question, but I don’t really think, that this could be a solution… Does Batocera maybe have a problem, because the HDD in the NAS is NTFS formatted? But recalbox is working with the NTFS on the NAS-HDD. And I also need it, because there are many big movie files on it.

Maybe I test an USB on the NAS like you. I will relate in the next days.

Hi,
Have you tried to connect throuhgt Kodi>>search>>NFS; if you connect, you will see the partition.
In any case, you should convert the HDD to ext4, but you can probe with a USB connect throught NAS and formatted to ext4.

Are you using a raspberry pi 4, too?
I tried kodi’s file manager and it could instantly find my nfs shared folder(s):

Then I formatted an external USB-HDD to ext4 format and give it the nfs permissions as before in your example and copied the roms folder to it. But still no external roms. 😩

My line in the batocera-boot.conf

sharedevice=NETWORK
sharenetwork_nfs1=ROMS@192.168.66.21:/volumeUSB1/usbshare/Batocera/roms

I don’t understand this… In Recalbox it works as it should. Batocera ignores everything with the pi 4. I can’t believe I’m the only one with the pi 4 and roms on the NAS. 🤔

Well, it’s very weird that you can access through Kodi and not with ES
Take a look into batocera-boot.conf
Could you send me the “batocera-boot.conf” file.

No, I use a pc x86_64, but I have installed batocera in several devices, raspberry, odroid… and I have never had this problem.

Hello again,

I sent you my file two days ago. 😉

Today I tried the x86_64 versions of Batocera and Recalbox for my desktop pc. I set a new nfs permisson on the Synology for 192.168.66.111 (This IP gets the desktop everytime.)
In Batocera still no rom access in the NAS. In Recalbox it works again and found everything after one reboot. I’m clueless… I tried samba and nfs.

I even set the lines in batocera.config in the system dir from

## Samba share
#system.samba.enabled=1
### SSH
#system.ssh.enabled=1

## Samba share
system.samba.enabled=1
### SSH
system.ssh.enabled=1

because I have seen, that in Recalbox the “#” is removed by default.
But that didn’t help, too…

I did not receive anything. I have disabled ssh on the NAS for security. It is not required for NFS.
Send me the file again, I want to see if you have spaces or characters in the text.

Hi, Robert,
Well in principle, the only thing that I see strange is “autoresize”, the first time you start Batocera, the system formats the space on the sd card (HDD) but the second time you start Batocera “autoresize” it should have a “#” in front of it.
It seems that the SD card may be broken and cannot write, so every time it starts it distributes the card.
Try putting # in front of “autoresize” or try another card; if it’s a raspberry 3 or 4 (I think) you can boot from a USB.

unfortunately it didn’t help with the “#”.

I have another micro SD card modell here, that is empty at the moment. I could try a fresh install. I think, that would be the last possibility. We tried everything. 😉 Thank you for your patience with me.
Could you give me a simple step by step instruction? What would you do in my case from the beginning of a fresh installed micro SD card? I am able to connect me via putty and FileZilla (Browser with GUI) to the Pi 4 with Batocera. The IP for the pi 4 is everytime 192.168.66.118

Hi Robert,
I don’t do anything special, I use balenaEtcher for writing the image and then, un text editor for writing tyhe path of file into batocera-config (but you don’t use Wordpad, use a real text editor like Notepad++ or Atom)
and that’s all
