I can't get sound thru HDMI.

I have a ATI HD 7750 GPU that I would like to use to passthrough sound. But it does not seem to work, changed the sound settings to HDMI output (tried about all of the HDMI outputs) but there is no sound going to my television. (I reboot every time) In the end I just use the front speaker of the computer, but obviously it sounds horrible.

You could try the following:
Start Kodi, go to Settings, Audio Output Device, and try all different Output Devices, that are listed there within kodi, until you find the one, that works.
For example it is "HDMI #1", then you exit kodi, and select the same #number in ES Menu under Sound Settings, Audio Output Device. If it works, then you will hear a "jingle-sound" and then sound should work within games also.

I have also this bug in 5.20, I cannot tell about later versions. Sometimes, with no reason at all, after boot, there is no sound anymore. Also on the jack output of the x86 board. So, as I am always on Wlan, I start Putty on the PC nearby and just entering "alsactl restore" will put the sound back. But very strange this random erratic behaviour.

Hi, i have a problem too, please help me. In kodi i can select the right sound device output hdmi for my tv and i can hear the sound but inside batocera 31 i have no choise, i can select only one audio device hdmi that doesn’t work. With alsa mixer “this sound device does not have any controls” and i cannot select any more devices with f6!

Dragu its alot of work, setting everything up as one desires hehe. I'm going to try alot things tomorrow and see if i can get some sound to my tv.

even in Kodi no sound? did you test within the kodi Audio Output Settings every output listed there?
could you make a screenshot of all Audio Output Devices listed in kodi?

joinski Joinski thank you so much. I went to kodi, set the sound output on HDMI0 and played a movie with sound. Then did a reboot and under batocera selected HDMI0 output, and it is working.

Before I have tried all HDMI outputs, also HDMI0 but it just wasn't working. sometimes there are just such strange workarounds to get things working.

yeah, i use this kodi workaround with batocera since about a year 🙂
i guess, there is also an alternative method (with alsamixer), but for me it is easier to start kodi and select the correct output there, exit kodi and select the same Output Device/Number # in Batocera

joinski Last weekend I played some games with some friends, we used the internal speaker from a HP Compaq Pro 4300 SFF, the sound was horrible lol. I bought a https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/327446/mp-elite-power-i3-3220/specificaties/ just to put my GPU in because it was to big for the Compaq.

I have the same problem (batocera 5.26, amd kabini a4-5000), I can make it work in Kodi, but it doesn’t work in batocera. Any clue?

joinski I don’t know exactly what i did (as alsamixer shows only my spdif output) but I raised all the volume and now it works…

playing a little bit with the alsamixer most of the times working for me with that issue… ( best over ssh)
For others with sound issues:
often, some outputs are on mute… Don’t ask me why we need to deal with that, seems it would be to easy that sound work out of the box…
So, select all outputs one after one and press the comma button if you read “mute”, then go to the sound settings in ES ad select all outputs you have one after one, and after select one press B, if you here a short sound after the message prompt “ please restart(…)” you are ready to go. Restart and you have sound

I’m Trying to resolve this problem…

VGA: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 730]

In Kodi, o Have 4 HDMI audio output (0,1,2 and 3) and I Have Sound in HDMI #3 normally.
I’ve verified the alsamixer and there are: Unmutted OutPuts: S/PDIF; S/PDIF1; S/PDIF 2 and S/PDIF 3
In Batocera, I only have only one OutPut HDMI#0 in audio menu (No Audio)

what i found….
I Have installed a version 5.23 and the hdmi audio works, it show me 4 outputs in Audio Menu, after this, I have manually updated to 5.25 and 5.26 and it worked from some days, after this the problem happened again :/

I imagine that some fine adjustment is missing to make this work properly.

what are your hardware specs? CPU/GPU? if nvidia gpu, did you enable nvidia drivers?

what are the names of the audio output devices which are listed in kodi? and what is the name of the device, that works within kodi?

what are the names of the audio output devices, which are listed in Batocera ES?
