Migration from Recalbox

Hi all,
was quietly enjoying Recalbox and discovered (by accident) Batocera which I now consider as "the good guys" 🙂.

I have a RPI 3B and my configuration with Recalbox was:
- Recalbox on SD card
- ROMs (and other files I don't understand) on USB key

To migrate, I've just flashed the SD card with Batocera, kept the USB key untouched and launched a script I found on this forum because my Retroflag case was a bit less confortable with the new system.

I am a bit unconfortable with this as I guess it would have be cleaner with a clean USB key. Would it? Is there a list of files to delete/add to adjust things?

Maybe there is a tutorial somewhere to migrate from Recalbox step by step ?

I guess, you will have problems. Much better to save bios, roms, cheats, all your personal datas and start with a fresh formated usb stick. After Batocera generated the file structure on the stick (that you define as external support) you can copy everything back. There are some differences also in the /share folders.

Dragu The roms and gamelists will work! BIOS very likely, too. If setted to correct position - of course your tip will also work but will take a longer time for setup. 🙂

Gregle Make a fresh install of BATOCERA, then rename the directory "recalbox" to "batocera" on your USB device. Delete everyting except the rom and bios directory from this media!

After that set storage media within ES to USB device and reboot. This should work...

Can you give me file structure of your USB device please? I can help but I need a bit background information. I can add a script for migrating from Recalbox to BATOCERA....

I read mame2016, what was dropped from 5.21? on, no ? Or is it again in 5.24 ?

Hi thanks for your answers.

I had transferred everything from the USB Key to my CPU, formatted the USB Key, put it back in Batocera and now transferring the ROMs back from my CPU to the USB Key. Will get you updated.

update: when I put back the USB key in batocera then only the menu appears and I have to manually find the "update game list" option to have the usual visual appearing back. Not difficult but a bit surprising since I guess batocera saw lots of changes in the games so could have launched the option directly? Now getting to scrape a bit...

Gregle This looks good... I did not know that recalbox directly writes to root directory. But that's easy to fix.

Gregle The Retroflag script is installed by BATOCERA since 5.22
You can go to SSH and type rpi_gpioswitch to select the correct power device. You will see a dialog windows that will do all the work for you.

Dragu Yes it's a structure from 5.22, but we want to observe the file structure and therefore this example is good enough.

For what it worth, here are the main difficulties I had in the transition (to 5.24 beta):

Connect to batocera (I was used to the web interface for recalbox and wanted to put the IP address in my web browser).
Share is a fantastic option, however I didnt find any step by step tutorial to activate it (I had to connect in ssh then manually and change the conf file with vi to remove the comments concerning samba). Maybe there is a better way but I didnt find it. Once done, batocera didnt appear on my Windows file explorer so had to type //BATOCERA manually to finally get it.
Reconfigure the Retroflag Nespi Case. I know you just have to uncomment the correct line but finding the correct line is not so obvious for beginners...
