New and confused

Hi, So I've just set up my new (old) computer with batocera and I'm having a few issues. some things are working absolutely fine.

I have a dell optiplex 3020 with the dual core i3 @ 3.5ghz and on board graphics (for now).

I'm not getting any sound and I've tried changing the output to various different things.

Gamecube isn't showing (where it used to show and play on recalbox)
playstation one isn't showing at all (and never showed on recalbox)

I have games in the folders and pretty sure I've got the right bios (but that's confusing me too).

I updated recalbox this morning and it completely messed up and the computer wouldn't even boot. So I decided to try batocera after seeing it should handle a larger amount of consoles.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

regarding Gamecube and Playstation One not showing: do the games, that you put into the folders have the correct file extension? see the readme/notes.txt within the folders

which version of batocera do you use exactly? 32 or 64bit? the current one (5.23)?
you could also try the current beta of 5.24 (here: https://batocera-linux.xorhub.com/upgrades/x86_64/beta/last/)

joinski thanks for the reply. I’ve now managed to get everything showing and the audio working. GameCube is playing. Ps1&2 are showing gameslists but not playing the games yet. Will keep troubleshooting and hopefully get it working tomorrow.

Dreamcast games are loading. But I can’t get the controller to work. I’m using Xbox 360 controllers.

And yeah I’m using the 64bit 5.23 version.

For PS1 and PS2 you need the correct Bios files. See within bios-folder for the readme/notes.txt and within ES Main Menu, Game Settings, Missing BIOS (this shows you, for which systems the bios files are still missing).

The bios files have to be named correctly and they must have the correct md5 hash (there are tools to check md5 hash, just google it). Somewhere on youtube there is a link to a site, where you can download full bios pack for batocera (just search for it).

Which kind of Xbox 360 controllers do you use? Official Microsoft? Wired (USB ) or wireless (with USB wireless receiver)?

Joej1990 I had the same problem with Dreamcast, I also use a Xbox 360 controller. I changed the emulator in the option menu to the one at the top and now my controller is working, so you might wanne try that.

So did the hint from Tomsen help you? Could you get your Xbox 360 controllers to work within Dreamcast? Which Dreamcast Emulator/Core did work and which not?

joinski for me the settings where on auto, but i then slected the upper emulator. That was not reicast.

Yeah I switched through different emulators to get it to work 🙂

I'm having a little trouble with some psx and ps2 games though. I've downloaded them and extracted them but they won't boot. I've tried changing the extension but had no luck. The only ps2 game that boots is hit and run, but then it gets stuck before even getting to the game menu. any advice?

and only two of my psx games will boot and play

Joej1990 what openGL do you have? Check at information. Joinksi tested out some onboard graphics, so he might know if yours is good enough. But i believe almost all onboard graphics suck;-).

i guess those ps1 games that do not run have the wrong file extension.
you can not just rename the file extension, that does not work.
if the games are compressed or have the wrong file format/extension, than you have to decompress them or use certain tools to reformat/convert them to the correct format/extension.
best is to download/rip the games directly to the correct format (.bin and .cue or .pbp for example)

regarding this ps2 game that get stuck.... i guess the game is not compatible with pcsx2 under linux.
just check pcsx2 compatability lists (easy to google)

Tomsen I was going to look into a gpu. Do you reckon that will fix some of the issues?

okay, did you also test the game Joej1990 mentioned? hit and run?

joinski with the psx2 emulator i have not come across a game that did not work, i installed around 20 games. Only need for speed is a bit slow buy still works. A GPU Will definitly speed up your games.

i just tested Simpsons Hit & Run on PS2 and it was working fine for me

Do you have any suggestions on where to download games from? Seems like most of mine are in the wrong format

direct links are not allowed due to copyright and laws etc.
just google cdromance for example and you will find something 😉
