Hey all, just for people to use as a reference, and to give you an update, i'll post my original thread that was on the previous forum (now the archive)....
Original Post: https://archive.batocera.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=82
Hey all,
I mentioned this on the old forum a few months ago when I was running Batocera 5.22.
I've got an HP Elite SFF PC, running a i7-3770S 3rd gen CPU @3.10ghz, 16gb of DDR3 ram, nVidia MSI 1050GTX 2gb graphics card. I pretty powerful machine for emulation.
All systems (PSP, DC, n64, Wii, GameCube rub flawlessly, and in fact with the PSP, for example, I can run all games at least 4x native res, for example, Gods of War - Chains of Olympus at 4x res runs all day at 60fps, however, running PS2 games, not all, but a few that are quite graphical (for example Need for Speed Underground 2 or Shadow of the Colossus are unplayable, as soon as something graphic comes in, for example in NFS when a race starts, or when a 3d model car is shown, fps drop from 60fps, down to 15fps, etc, music slows, etc. And this is running PCSX2 at native res (480p).
It was mentioned that PCSX just isn't very well optimized, but I thought to upgrade to the latest Batocera 5.24 might of improved things, it hasn't, its still as bad as before.
So where I am now, is, scrap Batocera and run BigBox or other, via Windows? Or are there any new tips for Batocera 5.24 that might be worth trying (ie. PCSX settings).
Or is PS2 just not very good to emulate on my system?
Thanks,
Ben

Could you check settings system information if your ogl backend says mesa or nvidia?
Figures you first need to enable the driver over commandline. Couldn't find it documented in the wiki.
Press F1 to get to files
Applications
Start xterm
mount -o remount ,rw /boot
nano /boot/recalbox-boot.conf
Remove the # before nvidia-driver=true
Exit with left control + x
Press y to save changes
Reboot the box. See if that makes a diffrence

Hi SmallBlue,
Thanks for getting back, nVidia drivers are already enabled as I had to do this to use PSP, get sound out over HDMI etc. It's running OpenGL 4.6.0, nVidia Drivers 435.21.
Many thanks,
Ben

Could you test those PS2 games you have issues with on PCSX2 on your machine under Windows?
I'm just curious if PCSX2 under Windows performs better than under (batocera) linux.

I have a i5-6500T CPU @2.50ghz, 8gb of ram and have the same issue, i think Shadow of the Colossus is the worst, unplayable very slowly and hearing like an echo in the sound
I guess it is not the release version of Batocera that can change something about it .. it's a core issue .. Confused

Let me see what I can do, at the moment only have one SSD in my emulation computer that stores both the OS and Roms, I'll see if I have another old hard drive laying around I could installed Windows 10 on and test.

Just to check, downloading it from

? As looking on here, it hasn't been updated (for Windows, or Linux) since 2016! Eek, or is there a newer port of it elsewhere.
