Batocera on iMac / MacBook Pro

For every Mac users who want to try retro gaming: You can use Batocera on a current iMac or MacBook Pro. Just install Batocera X86 64 Bits on a USB key and start your Mac and press alt/option key until you're ask to choose system disk. Select your USB key and then your Mac will boot on Batocera. I didn't manage to get any sound using jack port or/hdmi. Il solved this problem using a usb sound card with a jack port (plenty of choice on amazon for 10€). Just choose usb audio in the sound configuration menu and plug your headset. Now you can enjoy Batocera on your Mac and play Saturn, Dreamcast, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Naomi, PSP, Playstation 2 etc...

I got this working on my 2010 Mac mini, but it won't boot on my MacBook Pro 2017 just goes to a black screen

Mine can't work sound, it says on alsamixer it only has the HDMI. Its a 2017 late, I tried on another machine it didn't work either. The problem is the new MacBooks uses USB C, probably would be a problem using your work around.
Anyway, that was a nice attempt.

unfortunately, my sound card named "HDMI" was not available for any kind of tests.

I was having the same problem with a macbook pro 15 2016 with touch bar but searching on the web I´ve found some ways to make it work via HDMI. I hope you find it useful. Alt+F4 (using an external keyboard if yours is not recognized as mine) and have to press the letter ¨M¨ to activate every sound bar that you´ll find in that menu. before exit, press F6 to select the OUTPUT you think is the one you need and then, press Alt+F2 to exit. Restart your batocera y try to select again the HDMI 0 output form the batocera menu if you are trying to use a TV or an external Monitor. It took me 10 days trying but ir worked for me.
I also have an Imac 27 of 2011 and it worked too!. And if you want to try something amazing, search batoceraPLUS, you can choose something like 4k graphics for psp games! mind blowing. Hope you solve the sound problems

Hi, I am stuck on this currently. I’m looking to put my iMac 2012 desktop in an arcade cabinet. To control the volume of sound I was wanting to hookup speakers. Currently I have sound through the MAC itself, but I cannot get audio through the headphone output. I’ve been through the forums and discoved the asla thingy, but my knowledge of bash/linux only goes so far. I’ve tried 2 different USB soundcards and batocera wants none of it. Any suggestions?

Scratch that, the USB had a dodgy connection. I have audio Now!!!!!
