Wireless Inconsistent

I have an HP ProBook 430 G3 with Batocera 5.2 installed on a USB. I can configure and connect to wifi, but its unreliable in both 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz. If I start a large transfer of ROMs, say 40 Roms totalling 8GB it will fizzle out and not complete the transfer.

Regarding the connection, It will connect if I sit and toggle the connection enough, or reboot enough times, but it never comes up reliably. Any ideas on what migth be causing this issue? Nothing else on my network has issues, and I have tried different routers/setups. Thanks,

It connected on my 5Ghz network after sitting for awhile yesterday, I tried to use WinSCP to transfer some ROMs but it would always loose connectivity an have to restart. I checked my routers link status and the laptop connected at 6Mbps, but signal was not an issue.

Any ideas? I was going to try another USB HDD that is faster. Im using a Lexar S45 (One of the mini drives). I have a SanDisk Cruiser Pro arriving today, and worst case I could open this laptop up and install Batocera on the M.2 SSD, but I wanted to keep that for dual book to Windows.

you can use an external (2nd) usb key formated in fat32 too.

I assume its using the leftover storage after the 1GB-ish OS partition? I guess I dont see a benefit of using a 2nd USB, but I will try.

So I got the new USB and got it setup, it connected to wifi quicker this time, which could be coincidence. My router still said it connect at 56Mbps, which still seems slow. When I attempted to transfer files over it again bombed out.

FWIW, wifi works great on the Windows partition on this laptop.

it may be the wifi linux driver for this hardware.
