Custom Collections

Hi buddies,

I'm running batocera 5.25 on my laptop i5 2450m 4gB.
I just made 2 collections, a "zelda" and a "mario" collection, all runs fine.
My question is, how can I install a background and a "marquee/logo" image for these collections to have a good look in the front end ?

It really depends on the theme you use. Most are similar in structure (folders etc) but not all use the same image formats. Many are PNG or JPG which most graphics programs support. Others use SVG which is a vector type image which I've never really have been able to do well. As an example, my theme of choice is es-theme-videogame, Navigate to your share\themes\es-theme-videogame\art folder. Place your logo image on the logos folder and the backgound in the background folder. be sure to name it the exact same name as your custom collection. After restart it should be ready to go.

I've just tested it but nothing to do, I'm using carbon theme.
I go to "/share/theme" but there are nothing in this directory, so I made a "es-theme-carbon/art/background and /logos" directory in it and I place in each respective folder images from other systems but renamed with the exact name of my collection, even with *.jpg, *.png or *.svg, nothing works.

But I saw in my case (carbon theme), the theme is stored in "/usr/share/emulationstation/themes/es-theme-carbon/art/background/.....etc....."
even when I copy images in these directories nothing happens, and worst after a reboot my 2 files are deleted automatically.

I also have a collections directory in "/userdata/system/configs/emulationstation/collections" where is the *.conf file for the collection.

Can I do something whith that ??

Perhaps Carbon as a default theme for emulationstation may be protected being in that area. I assume the rest of any downloaded themes are in the share\themes? I've had a similar situation where I wanted to edit one of the xml files to remove a certain extension to be associated with a console and it appeared to let me save. But after going back to it I couldn't. Perhaps its a permissions issue. An alternative to that would be to copy that directory over to your share themes and rename the folder to something like just Carbon. At this point you should be able to add to it I would think.

Thanks man, it works great.

I just copy the genuine carbon theme to /share/theme and then I'm able to add background and logo for my collection.

I got this to work for me to. It's great!

I have another question. Is it possible to show the games only in the Custom Collection and to hide them in the Console-Category itself?

fredi-fredi Hi. This didn’t work for me. I also copier the es-theme-carbon to userdata/themes and called it es-theme-custom. I created some custom collections like zelda, metroid,… Then I copied some logos and backgrounds in the subdirectories art/logos and art/background. But the artwork doesn’t show up in the collections. I tried calling the files the same as the collections f.e. “zelda.jpg”. After this didn’t work I tried like the collection is called f.e. “custom-zelda.jpg”. Nothing worked out for me. You have any tips where I could be wrong? Thanks in advance.

Yes but only by the system right? You can say take all the roms you like and add to a custom collection called "Woodhmer's Arcade". Then say go to your UI and deselect the System from view. The whole system is not displayed but those selected in your custom group remain. But to have them show up in one category individually and not in another while others of the same category are viewable I don't think is possible.

Thanks! Just tested it, thats an Opion for me.

I want to seperate the Wii Games from the Guitar Hero Games(also Wii, so only one System). I Just make 2 Custom Collections for Wii(new One) and Guitar Hero and hide the original Wii-System. Just what i needed!
