I have an old’ish ASUS laptop with a broken screen I am trying to turn into a retro gaming station. The screen is cracked, it will light up but is illegible. I have connected the laptop to an external screen. I have HDMI and D-Sub VGA available. I would like to use HDMI and get sound working through it too, but one step at a time.
I can get Batocera to boot of a usb. The theme music will play on the laptop speakers. However, it defaults to the laptop screen and any external screen will be blank. I have tried doing this with both an HDMI and D-Sub connection. I have tried the laptop hotkey (fn + F8) for switching monitors, although to be fair I don’t think that ever worked under any OS.
As the laptop screen is illegible, I can’t go through the menus to try to change the video output. Is there a key combination I could try to make it switch output? Is there a way to log into it over ssh and change the output? Any other suggestions on this?
