Hello, is there any way to run an original psx game or a CD copy directly in batocera.
the idea would be to insert the disc into the CD player and have the game run automatically.
Not possible at all
but in theory a small program could be made that detects if a disk is inserted and that runs the emulator.
hanlest that would be a pretty cool but very pointless
Why pointless? There are certain segments of the retro gaming community that would love having the ability to run their original media on a Pi or PC as long as it was easy and worked well. It truly would be a great bonus to the already excellent feature set. Retroarch already supports reading physical discs so I’d think Batocera would just need a way to interface a drive and passthrough.
Batocera could be the distro that puts devices like the Polymega to shame.
Imagine a PS1 shell, with a custom theme, splash screen etc, wich can play PS1, PS2 and PSP games.
Now if it could play your original games… it would be great, perhaps it is a silly thing, you can rip the disc and put the iso in to a pendrive, but…..
Hi, i think there is a way…. The clever thing about linux is that it can do anything you tell it… I worked on a project once upon a time where the requirement would be the linux operating system would run a command based on a USB stick plugged in. It did require making a text document listing the serial numbers of each memory stick and each stick had a specific role once plugged in…. Long story short if this can be done with usb stick or usb hard drives (due to having different serial numbers) game disc detection could be achieved if a text document containing the prefixes of all the game discs then it would a case of running a one time script containing a list of commands to each disc based emulator to tell the linux system to run one of them once a disc with a matching prefix contained in the text document is detected………….. i sense a project here but quick one none the less. If anyone knows what i’m talking about and want to give it a crack go ahead…. I’ll try and squeeze some time in to give it a whirl myself
Hope this makes sense
