On which distro is Batocera build ?

i mean i installed Batocera on a desktop x64 by using Usb installer.
there is a terminal when i press F1 i can get to it.
however, which distro is Batocera really build on or forked of ?
is it Ubuntu debian or something else ?

It’s based on buildroot

as cyperghost said, it’s not based on any distro, it’s built from scratch using buildroot

so is that why it boots so fast ? i have an older desktop running it now, it almost boots instantly (below 10 sec or something) compared to any other distro i tried on that same computer (xubuntu/ubuntu/mint…minutes boottimes).
if i open the terminal with F1, can i install missing dependencies for instance for Kodi ? like
sudo apt-get install Kodi-inputstream-adaptive

@SingingCoyote13 no you can’t install anything without recompiling the whole system, that’s the point.
apt-get isn’t included at all

how do I go about running a PERL script from Batocera?

seems like I need it to isntall vmware tools for my Batocera VM

@genivxcom I don’t know what perl script requires, but I’m pretty sure it’s not there ….
What is the use case of this perl script ? and why not use python or bash ?

I have installed on vmware workstation as sa virtual machine on my new machine.
there is current no sound and the resolution is stuck what seems like 640×480.

I want to manually intall VMWARE tools. that provides drivers for VMs

I don’t think Batocera is designed at all to be used as a VM …

This guy have it on as a VM and it seems to run very well.

Though I can’t get in contact with the guy to see how he did it.

But my system is a Ryzen 9 3900x with 12cores and, 64gb RAM, and 1TB nvme SSD. no reason it can’t run emulations well in a VM. better than having another dedicated Batocera machine sitting around taking up space and electricity.

Yes I can use all separate emulator but batocera is nice with everything included.

yes but that will mean I have to shutdown my current win10 workstation and software to play roms

considering I have 64gb ram and 3900x I won’t be playing much more than psx/n64 it should run fine. everything else under it shud be no problem. for Wii PS2 and higher I can run it on native app.
