Edit batocera-boot.conf over SSH

Total noob question. How do I edit the above file over SSH. Not much documentation on this. I’m using Bitvise on windows to edit. Once I try and save file I get an error stating its Writeprotect: Read-only file system.

you first need to remount the boot partition as writeable. Try on ssh fllowing comand
mount -o remount,rw /boot
that should (re)mount the boot partition writable.
Lil tipp: Not every basic linux knowledge is described in the Wiki
You can workarround this via crossearch : “how i remound read only partition linux” would have helped you there.

So I edited the boot.conf to change to my external HDD for my roms. I believe I have it set right but what does the file structure need to be on the HDD for batocera to read the roms?

if you want to use an external HDD for your roms, there is an easy way to do this.
just go to System Settings, Storage Device and set the storage device you want.
then reboot and batocera will automatically build the folder structure on the selected storage device.
