Dell 17" Not working (1280 x 1024)

Hi all….new to Batocera….migrating fro RetroPie….and have a few issues.

First and foremost, I have a DELL 17″ 4:3 ratio screen, used for months under RetroPie. I cannot boot on this monitor, and need to plug in a 1920 × 1080 monitor to get any video output. The maximum the Dell will do is 1280 × 1024.

Also worth noting is that I am running a HDMI to DVI convertor as the Dell does not have HDMI

Do I give up and revert back to RetroPie, or can someone assist please.

I am having the same issue on a Dell 20″ 4:3 screen with an HDMI to DVI adapter. Retropie works, Batocera does not. Monitor says out of range signal.
I’ve tried manually editing the batocera.config to change “system.es.videomode=DMT 51 HDMI” but it did not change anything.

Note: DMT 51 is supposed to be 1600×1200 60hz which is what the Dell monitor is asking for.

Edit: I’ve also changed the config.txt file to manually set the hdmi_group (to hdmi_group=2) and hdmi_mode (hdmi_mode=51) and this also did not work.

That would be a no-go. :(
I tried both 6 and 7 and it didn’t change anything.
I also tried setting hdmi_force_mode=1 to see if it was perhaps ignoring the setting group and mode I had set, but it also didn’t change anything.

Edit: I also want to point out that the menu music has worked through my 3.5mm speakers since the first boot and continues to work with each change I’ve made. I’ve also plugged it into my standard HDMI capable computer monitor and even my capture card and it works just fine in both places.

I just want to add new information as I’m struggling to figure this out.
I modified the /boot/config.txt file to change it to “hdmi_group=2” and “hdmi_mode=9” (which is 800×600@60hz/4:3) and I do finally get something to show up on my screen, but for whatever reason it’s squished to the right side of the screen and there’s a black bar running up about 1/6th of the left side of the screen.

This is on the latest dev build.

Edit: Same when I change it to “hdmi_mode=16” (1024×768@60hz/4:3)

I tried a 16:9 setting and it results in the same issue.
If I go too high on the resolution it starts being out of range, even though it’s still below the 1600×1200 that the monitor is asking for.

Small update:
I replaced the HDMI-DVI adapter with a MicroHDMI-VGA adapter and now everything is aligned correctly.
I would still like to get the DVI adapter working, though if anyone has any thoughts or needs to collect more data from me.

So I just tried the batocera-5.27-rpi4-20200901 image with the original HDMI-DVI adapter and the default settings and it looks like it worked.
Crossing my fingers that it continues to do so.

kos1 it should stay like this until official release for 5.27 - that is a side effect of the last changes in /boot/config.txt.
