Batocera PCSX2 custom-configs

Spent the last three nights working on this. (im just gonna copy paste its description off the github readme)

This small add-on will enable Batocera Linux to keep separate configurations/settings for individual games on the PCSX2 emulator, as well as run those roms through the EmulationStation front end menu with thier own settings automatically loaded, effectively putting an END to the pain of changing PCSX2 settings every time you want to switch to a different game. tested with 5.25 and 5.26.

Updated to 1.1: Packed everything in a .tar archive to retain the file executable permissions. setting it up should be a lot less pain free now 😅

Nice work! Need to test this. Hopefully something like this could be integrated to default batocera as some games are picky with the settings and it is a major pain to change back and forth.

A quick test with 5.27 RC4 and it works but some things are a bit strange:

the new settings that can be set in the menu in 5.27 are overwritten by the settings in per game config (to be expected).

Something really strange happens with controller mapping (might be my china controllers) but X and start and select dont work, start and select are moved to R3 and L3 buttons. I think L2 is also select button and R2 start. For some reason my controller #2 became the main controller.

This can all be fixed with remapping but it has to be done with every game as the default is this. The strangest thing is if I remap the controller I cant exit the game anymore with start+select, I checked the config and these are buttons Jbut13 and 14 (ingame start and select and also works to exit, on L3/R3) but I checked all the buttons and the controller only goes up to 11. The real start and select are buttons 8 and 9 and work fine ingame but cant exit with them. This scrambeled config had the Y-axis correctly 😁 but with a remaping it is wrong again and inverted mapping does not fix it and the config does not seem to remember Invert Ly checkbox when starting from ES.

The installing was also a bit of a hassle, I had to right click both install and start and put them executable for them to start and not open as a text file. Same thing when starting the game specific config, every time it was right click and make executable if I had exited the file manager.

All in all it works but is a bit fiddly to setup. Hopefully this is useful feedback for you 😀

MurMur thank you so much for the feedback 😀 . This is the very first release so here’s bound to be a few bugs and hiccups along the way till everything gets ironed out eventually.

Looks like the original file permissions got lost when I uploaded them to git (I looked up and yah turns out it happens 😣). Which is why you had to go through all that hassle of enabling execution permissions for each one. I think uploading the files in a .tar archive will preserve the permissions. I’m away from my computer right now but I’ll get that thing fixed soon.

As for the controller issue. If you can, try this to see if it fixes the problem.
Delete the ‘games’ folder in pcsx2_custom_confings

Delete or rename the ‘custom.sh’ file in ‘system’ directory to something else. (To disable custom config running on start up)

Reboot.

Go to the main pcsx2 settings in the applications menu and do the gamepad remapping.

Start a game and see if the controls work properly as they should.

If everythings fine, (set permissions for the two files in the ‘files’ folder to executable by owner, first btw) and execute the ‘start’ file. This should generate a new ‘games’ folder and clone all your main settings to it including the controller config.

Let me know how it goes this time around. 🤔

Alright, tested some more. (This test on the v1 of the files)

The controller issue was fixed by setting the execution permissions on the two files and running install.py. The mapping is correct and I was able to exit the emulator the default way. This time it had remembered the execute permissions on the install.py and start.py, also the files in ‘games’ was able to be executed without setting permissions everytime. Maybe a reboot fixed some of the permission issues?

There is still the issue of inverted Y-axis and pcsx2 not remembering the checkbox if started from ES (from config it works, both in normal config and these configs) but this seems to be a deeper batocera/pcsx2 issue and only seems to affect some controllers.

Seems to work nicely now, it remembers the settings you put which helps with games like tony haws pro skater which hangs if MTVU is enabled while others get a good speed bump from it. On lower performance systems this is good as you can tailor the settings per game where it makes a huge difference.

Hi guys, I don’t want to piggy back on this post but…
I got in batocera recently installed on four different 64-bit PCs.
I can get the PlayStation 2 ROMs to start however there is a funky translucent second layer enabled I finally figured out if I press F9 after restarting the game each time it will turn on the software rendering and the games are much more playable.
I’m running batocera on 4 more than capable machines, booting off of a 1tb hard drive each.
Where in the world do I find the config file to make sure it’s always set to software render instead of hardware. Thank you

Plowran I can actually answer this for you. You’ll want to attach a keyboard to your machine and press F1 at the main Batocera screen. The file browser will open. From there make sure you are in the Application directory on the left. You should see an application called something along the lines of PCSX2-Config. Open that bad boy up and in one of the dropdowns (maybe plugins) you’ll have a Video option. Hover over that and one of the options will allow you to configure the video. Inside that dialogue box you’ll have the option to change the video from OPENGL Hardware to OPENGL Software.

Sorry my steps are a bit clunky, I don’t have Batocera installed at the moment, but I wanted to make sure you got a response.

Everything works but i wanted to uninstall for test a thing but i forgot to delete the codes lines and i install a second time

now every games won’t launch
So after that i correctly uninstall and install custom config again and its the same problem
help please

Boutdepapier Hi. sorry for the late reply. try deleting everything in the “pcsx2_custom_configs/games/” folder. it should hopefully clear things up.

Hi Chamara64, one question: the utility is compatibile with Batocera 30?
Because I follow the instructions but the plug-in doesn’t work.

this mod works up to 5.27, (which is the version I’m using to this day because of its Nvidia legacy driver support). the latter versions (after 5.30 I think) of batocera works a little different under the hood and thats why the mod brakes/no longer works on those. I really wish i did, but I no longer have the time to figure out and update it to run on the new versions 😐 .

Chamara64 Not sure if you’re aware, but v33 also has a legacy Nvidia driver version downloadable from the main site. Unless you’re referring to something really old, like one that not even the regular Nvidia legacy drivers cover.

Also, this script workaround may no longer be necessary as a lot of important settings have been integrated into Batocera’s ES. You can pretty trivially set up per game settings using the menus in ES now.

Atari no I was NOT aware. and this is wonderful news 😃. I was chatting with some of the devs on discord way back when i 1st wrote the script about bringing the per game pcsx2 settings to es.

And yah I require something really old, the 390 drivers for my 550ti, the current “legacy” as I understand it is at 470.xx. but from what I hear 35 is going have a 390 driver option, which is awesome!

What? Legacy was the 390 version I’m pretty sure. Hm, well as you saw there are plans to merge that into the next stable (as of writing, v35) when it comes out, so all will be well.
