Enable old AMD GPU to work with Batocera?

I’ve put together an old HP office machine with the intention of using it to run Batocera on my living room TV for some retro gaming. Rig specs:
HP 8300 SFF
i5 3470
8gb DDR3
1gb AMD HD8470

Everything from PS1 down works fine however anything beyond that suffers badly. I tried Batocera before on this system just using the integrated gpu on the i5 and performance is exactly the same leading me to believe the AMD gpu isn’t being used other than for HDMI output. Is the an older version or some config file I can edit to get the AMD gpu to work?

You can look under System Settings, Information, OpenGL, whether there is a difference between the Intel iGPU and the AMD card.
Also in Kodi, System Information, Video with GPU and OpenGL each should be different.

And if you look up the performance of the Radeon HD8470 and compare it to the performance of the Intel iGPU (Intel HD Graphics 2500) there does not seem to be a big difference, when you look up benchmarks.
I guess older GPUs are generally not well supported and it is always better, to use more modern hardware.
Intel iGPUs, even if they are less performant seem to be better supported under linux and therefore deliver better performance than very old AMD/nvidia cards in batocera.

joinski Dang, so if I am using an HD7570 1gb DDR5 which benchmarks better than a gt 730, would I need to do anything specific to enable it because of its age?

no, the HD7570 should be supported out-of-the-box with the integrated driver. just give it a try ;)
