Wii controller extension setting keep get override

Not sure if this is really a new issues.

But basically whenever I try to hit F1 and go to dolphin-emu-config, and edit the Emulated Wii Remote setting, and selection any extension for the controller like nunchuck or classic controller. and when I exit back to emulation-station, and select a game from there. The controller extension setting will get override, and there’s no options that you can change in emulation-station that would help.

I believe this is released to a long standing design flaw on Batocera. that EMU-station will override all the settings. I mean, I understand why they want to do that, but at the same time, when you give the option of F1 to change setting on the emulation itself. it really cause confusion, and in this case, almost unusable, as there are no way you can play wii game that requested the nun-chuck or the classic controller from the front end. The only way you can get those games to run is to hit F1, change it to the right settings and launch it from the GUI, and never launch anything wii from EMU-station.

I manage to figure out a ways to save all the other settings with all kind of tricks, except for the controller setting. If the developers can either fix the EMU-station overriding behavior, or add all the options needed on the front end. that would be great.

But for now, do anyone know any workaround?

This is the batocera idelogy and I believe that they will not change.

Try big box or retropie, they are customizable …

Understood, I mean, I totally get their ideology and it is actually good to have a specific and distinctive ideology, like why anyone want like 3 or 4 different OS that’s just like Retropie right. But with great ideology, that needed great solutions that back it up. What’s missing right now, is that solution.

Though, totally understood wii emulation bother the hack of many people’s due to its unique control scheme. The solution for the extension controller part of it isn’t that hard to imagine. A.) just make a toggle in the pre-system configure setting, and just let user enable whichever one they want like they can on the Dolphin GUI. Yes it might come with annoying pre-config or something, but those pre-config can improve overtime. Not everyone got a wiimote and one or two dolphin-bar they can use, so they know what they are getting into. Or B.) as a workaround, put a override toggle there, so each system can either be drive by the built-in config setting. or the EMU-Station setting. In fact, I think that would be a great idea to have before they actually makes everything perfect on the front end like EMU-Station following their ideology.

You know I would take any workaround for now, and it is not the end of the world, it can still run dolphin, it is just annoying that every time I have to go into the GUI, meaning I will always needed my keyboard/mouse to do so. Which i think that’s exactly what they don’t want people to do.
