I tried the latest Batocera RPi3 release of January 30, and it finally worked for me.
But there is a list of complaints:
1) Loading has become slower than in version 5.29 and even more so in 5.27.
2) The system is constantly writing or reading something on the SD-card (it can be seen by the activity LED), which causes the periodic freezes and lags, including the interface.
3) The Retroarch interface can hang for a few seconds or even hang completely while navigating through the menu.
4) The settings for overclocking CPU are disappeared.
5) User’s splash videos don’t work (standard splash gone too).
6) Annoying pop-up notification about connecting USB controller appears each time I exit game and I couldn’t find the way to disable it.
7) Visual glitches in ES GUI (flickerings, disappearing menus etc.) may appear after I launched some game.
8) Newly added emulator cores “DuckStation” and “Mednafen PSX” are totally unplayable on RPi3 because of extreme slowness even showing BIOS logo.
9) mGBA core has some old version without turbo buttons for A & B.
10) The boot partition now takes up 2.5 GB of space with as much as 1.7 GB free, although previous versions took up 1.85 GB. This means that at least 600 MB of my SD card is now wasted even though I could use it for games. What is the purpose of this?
11) I was unable to open the /boot/batocera file on the SD card. I usually used to do this with 7-zip to figure out the OS file system so I could add my own boot scripts. “UnSquasFS” tool doesn’t help too. It looks like it’s encrypted now. Why encrypt an open-source and customizable system?
Summary: The system is unuseable in current state.
I hope developers read these forums, and I write it not in the middle of nowhere.
