Question in regards to GC emulation

So I flashed Batocera x64 to a 32gb USB drive today and loaded it through my HP 2000-2B44DX laptop. It’s running stock 4gb DDR3 RAM, 500gb HDD, and a AMD E-300 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.30 GHz. I will be upgrading the RAM to run two sticks of the 4gb DDR3 RAM, instead of just one. I’ll also be upgrading the HDD to a SSD.

Anyways, I’m trying to play Wind Waker and there seems to be choppy audio and some lagging. The intro cutscene runs fine, but the menu and gameplay are choppy and laggy.

Is this something that will be resolved when I upgrade? Is there something I can do to fix it before upgrading? Any suggested settings to run on my machine for better gameplay? Is Wind Waker just a difficult game to emulate?

i guess your CPU is not strong enough for Gamecuble emulation in fullspeed.
from my experince, you need a CPU with a Passmark Single-Thread Rating of at least about 900 for Gamecube emulation.

As joinski already wrote the AMD E-300 is not powerful enough to run GC games in full speed. As you are using a laptop there is nothing you can do to improve this as the CPU is usually not to be changed to other types.

That’s what I feared, luckily this laptop was 100% free. I’ve experienced some lag on NDS, as well. The highest I can get is PS1 and PSP it seems.

I got turned on to Batocera from watching ETA Prime’s YT channel, so I gave it a shot. I’ve only ever emulated via programs on Windows, never anything like Batocera. It’s nice that most of it seems to be plug and play

Seeing as how I’m diving into new territory here, I have more questions. So what is a Passmark Single Thread Rating? How can I make sure that the next CPU I get will have better marks? Any suggestions for an affordable CPU to use as an emulation machine for some higher end emulation? I’m fine with doimg future upgrades, I just don’t know where to start for a base model

Click on the laptop: CPU Mark to look at laptop CPUs.

So before you buy your next laptop/computer check what the rating for the CPU is on that list. With emulation the CPU is the most important so make sure that is good enough, after that you can look at GPU to get prettier graphics, SSD for loadspeed etc.

As for higher end emulation, the budget versions of the newer Ryzen for example are affordable and have a good rating, see if you can find any used comps with Ryzen in your area.
