BATOCERA on XU4 only boot up sometimes

Got a brand new XU4 with an OGST case and initially I thought it was defective. It was only booting sometimes, but mostly not booting, with no pattern to it, it was just random. With no change in config.

Using version 27.2 (I think), since further versions don’t seem to work with the OGST screen (even if available in downloads).

So I was losing patience thinking it was an issue with the XU4, but then tried Ubuntu images and RecalBox images, and none of them had any issues and were all booting fine, all the time. And I tested these extensively just to be sure. Not a single missed boot over about 30-40 tries for each.

So I made another Batocera image, and while it booted fine for the first two times, it didn’t the third time, and then randomly boot and not boot afterwards. I tried it on 4 different micro SD cards, with the same results on each.

I may try again with version 30, even if OGST support is broken, to see if it fares better regarding this issue.

If there’s anything someone can suggest I try, let me know. I much prefer Batocera over other systems (much better UI overall, options, etc…, IMO), and would really like to use it with my XU4 and OGST case… but so far I had no luck making it work properly.

Petit test ici que j’ai fait aujourd’hui…

I made a new image of Batocera 27.2 for Odroid XU4, and did a bunch of boot cycles with absolutely no change in config between them (always with same devices connected), and doing nothing aside from shutting it down if it booted successfully.

Results:

Boot: 20 times.
Fail to boot: 17 times. (screen turns on and stays on, but no activity from XU4)

So it’s roughly 50-50, more or less.

Images of other OSes (on same microSD, written with same USB dongle - Ubuntu, Recalbox) never failed to boot even once over 30 boot cycles. So clearly, something is broken in 27.2 on XU4.

Will try v30, but as others said, OGST screen support is broken in these releases so it’s not usable for me. But I will test version 30 to see if it fares the same in terms of random failure to boot and will report here.

If someone wants me to test something in particular to help in fixing this, let me know, I’d be happy to help.

Hi, i know this problem. i would suggest to use 5.26. You wrote you made a new image. Can you also squashFS? i would modify 5.26 a little bit, but i’m looking for somebody who can squash because i cannot.
