I am new at using Batocera, first installing it on old PC about a week ago. I am most familiar with RetroPie, installing it on desktops using RetroPie Setup Script and also RetroPie images on RPi zero, 2B, 3B and a 4B. While I am experienced with RetroPie and configurating it, I absolutely LOVE Batocera so far!!
I bought a new RPi 4, NesPi4 case and 500gb Samsung SSD. During my install, I connected SSD using a SATA to USB adapter and booted Batocera 31 from a 16gb USB flash drive. I first used the menu option to format SSD to EXT4 and then using “Install to a New Drive” I received an error, which the logs showed “Not enough space on /userdata to download the update”.
I connected SSD using adapter to a Linux Mint PC and using GParted, I could see that the SHARE partition of my SSD had a note on it stating it wasnt using the full space. Gparted suggested using Partition/Check to allow it to expand SHARE partition to use the full rest of available space, which I completed.
I was then able to boot the Pi 4 to USB Batocera drive, and run the “Install to New Drive” without any further issue.
Is this a bug?
Or did I miss a step when I was using the “Install to New Drive” or do something wrong by formatting it first? It seems that my SSD did not expand the SHARE drive to use all space, like how a new USB flash drive will do when it first boots Batocera.
I need to complete this process on another RPi, and want to make sure I am not missing anything.
Thanks
