Update to v31 fail with not enough space on /boot

My PC is currently running v30 and i tried to update to v31 with Update Type set to Stable

It says AN ERROR OCCURED : Not enough space on /boot to download the update.

I ssh into batocera.linux and below is the disk usage for /boot in my PC now.

You can use my method by install on a small sd card / usb batocera 31 pc after on your computer you put the fresh sd with batocera 31 , and your hdd with batocera 30 in another usb port , you delete the file on the windows partition of your hdd batocera 30 and you copy paste the file on sd/usb batocera31 to your batocera 30 hdd

on the video on the left its a fresh usb with batocera 31 , on the right my hard disk with batocera 30 :)

be carefull to choose on windows disconnect / eject usb .

Managed to solve my issue by using GParted to resize my sdb partition to 12gb which is larger than 3gb

Able to upgrade to v31 now and everything working fine so far

The PS2 emulator is working again in v31 too which doesn’t work in v30 previously as I am using a old PC with Phenom X4 965 CPU

How do you use gparted on batocera? I’m not too savvy when it comes to Linux but I have the same problem and I can’t update to v31. I couldn’t find any tutorials online on how to use gparted on batocera and the ones I found for things like raspberry pi or ubuntu etc. don’t seem to be very helpful here.

I had this problem since Batocera v30. I normally install beta updates but I started to get that error in the latest ones… I decided to wait until the final release v31 but again the same problem, so I got feed up and finally decided to enlarge the boot partition with gparted (gparted-live-1.3.0-1-amd64.iso from https://gparted.org/download.php)

As my Batocera is in an internal 500GB SSD, I created a bootable USB (using Rufus) with gparted.

What I did was:

Reduce share partition 3GB
Enlarge the boot partition 3GB

With this I hope don’t need to do this again as it’s a quite slow process.

I had the same thing. Tried everything to get it to work with my existing 3Gb partition and eventually had to bite the bullet and figure out how to extend the volume to 16Gb using GParted Live.

It took about 30 minutes (the time depends on the amount of data you have) and requires a 2nd USB drive (formatted to FAT32) but it does work and the update has now run for me.
