Does Batacera work on new Apple Silicon machines using the M1 chip? Parallels doesn’t seem to want to see the image file for the OS once downloaded on my system.

I was able to launch it on MBP 15 2019 via Parallels 16.5.0. It was pretty tricky to make it work.

Steps:

Download image for Standard Laptop/Desktop.
Unzip file gzip -d batocera-x86_64-31-20210615.img.gz
Convert img file to VirtualBox disk image, VBoxManage convertdd batocera-x86_64-31-20210615.img Batocera.vdi.
Increase disk size VBoxManage modifyhd Batocera.vdi --resize 65536 (this is 64GB).
Convert VirtualBox disk image to Parallels disk image prl_convert Batocera.vdi --allow-no-os.
Create new virtual machine in Parallels as Linux on 2.6 kernel version without installing the system.
You will need to change the disk image with created one.
Launch Batocera.linux.

First of all thanks for the help and sorry because I know it is an old treat but I’m having some problems

I’m trying to install it via Parallels 17 on a 2018 MBP

I download the image, go to terminal, unzip it, covert it to vdi and resize it to 32GB

All perfect, but when I try to convert it to parallels image I’m having a problem

Conversion progress: 0 %

The source virtual disk contains no operating system

So I can’t install it with parallels

If someone can help me it will be great.

Anyways how is the performance of Batocera in parallels??

Hi,

I have a question to the Batocera via Parallels installation.

I tried to set up the VM liked described in the post above and could successfully convert the .vdi to a .hdd drive for Parallels.

My problem now is that every time when I try to start the vm, Parallels only shows the boot screen (almost looks like a BIOS) and the system is not booting.

Does anyone have an idea what I could try to fix this issue? would be really great to have it running as VM.
