Cannot boot from USB

Hello there,

I have a mini PC, tech specs as follows:

Intel J3355 2.4 GHz
4GB RAM
Intel HD 500

I have Batocera v30 running on it smoothly from the internal 32 GB SSD drive. I want to upgrade it to v31. The auto-updater does not work since it gives me the “not enough space” error. So I decided to reinstall Batocera from the scratch. I have downloaded the image and flashed it to an USB-drive.

The problem is, that Batocera does not want to run from the USB, all I get is a blank screen.

I have tried the following without any succes:

turned of every other boot option in the device BIOS
turned off fastboot in the device BIOS
turned off security options (they weren’t used btw)
remove the secondary HDD (which contains my ROMS and BIOSes needed by Batocera)
tried to flash latest v32 beta to the USB-drive
tried to re-flash an earlier build (v29) to the USB-drive
tried to use an other USB-drive
flash the USBs with Etcher / Rufus

None of the above works. All I get is a splash screen of v30 then a blank black screen if the USB are plugged in. If not, v30 starts absolutely normally.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

unplug the internal 32GB SSD (with Batocera v30 already installed) and try again.

Batocera does not like it, when there are 2 drives with 2 installations connected to the PC at the same time.

joinski let me ask you this since you do seem to have more knowledge than me on batocera bugs.

my set has a 1030gt installed, and batocera detects it as such with OpenGL 1.0 even tho i never enabled the nvidia drivers.

does that mean it will use the 1030gt to render the gfx or its just saying thats what is present?

I ask because when i went to enable the nvidia drivers it still showed the same info. nvidia driver 4.460 openGL 1.0 but the card can support OpenGL 4.2. and the no change in performance in PCSX2

Thx this solved my problem, I had a older version installed on a connected hard drive and this caused the issue. After unplugging it, I was able to boot properly

so true, and sometimes it only boots one or the other even tho you selected the right drive to boot from

usually if you enable nvidia drivers it should show under System Information that nvidia drivers are used and the highest openGL version, which your card supports. you can also have a look in kodi system information, video, if there is a difference between nvidia drivers activated/deactivated. double-check the batocera-boot.conf file (and do not edit it with wordpad, use notepad++).

if it does not work for you i would try with an older version of batocera to see, if there is any difference (for example v29 or 30)

i do not have that many knowledge, i’m no dev of batocera. i’m just an ordinary user and like to help others (if i can)

joinski thanks i try to help others too, ill have to check kodi and perhaps try a different version of batocera
