No HDMI output on my laptop?

Hi I installed batocera as my main OS on my HP omen laptop. Everything works perfectly except for the HDMI port which just doesn’t seem to be detected. I have tried switch from the latest stable release to the beta release but that didn’t change anything. Tried renaming my “system” folder in my share folder so that a new one gets made but sadly no results. Tried switching HDMI ports/cables but also nothing. (HDMI ports on the tv that I know work). I did enable the NVIDIA drivers in the boot config file and tried to use it with a default boot file but still nothing sadly. The actual laptop screen is shown in the system output setting but no HDMI port is shown, only auto and laptop screen. Same for audio. Have seen very few forum posts with this issue but none seem to be of any help to me, Anyone know how I could possibly fix this? Or should I just reinstall batocera and hope for the best?

I was wrong there are HDMI outputs in the audio for both intel and nvidia. Tried reinstalling Batocera completely didn’t work, tried running it from a USB stick didn’t work. Installed another linux OS and when I plug in a HDMI cable in my laptop using that OS I do get HDMI output on my Tv, same cable, same ports…

I had this exact same issue on my laptop. I couldn’t go to any version higher than what I was on at the time which was 29. I ended up having to perform the second step and copying my data back.

Also If you are using a large drive (I had a 2TB drive) there was a known bug with large drives. Go to system settings | information if your user disk is something small like 256MB you’ve got the issue. From System Settings go to Developer | format a disk | select internal disk and EXT 4 as your options. Let it do it’s thing and reboot when prompted. Run through step 1 if it applies to your hardware and reboot again.

Hi thanks for responding!

I had the nvidia drivers enabled in the boot config file, both of them. I don’t think I saw anything weird with my drives in the system menu. I will check it soon since I’m currently reinstalling it completely. But worst case scenario what if both of those fixes don’t work?

I just checked and my “User disk usage” is at 1.48gb/110gb so that ain’t it, Information shows the gpu is being used aswell. And Graphics API OpenGL ES1.0

Sure hopefully it helps! How did you edit the batocera-boot.conf did you do it over SSH to Batocera or did you pull the drive and attach it to a windows machine? If the latter did you use regular Notepad to edit it?

I used the xterm terminal, edited the permissions of /boot with "mount -o remount,rw /boot and removed the # that are in front of the Nvidia options. Just saved and it is working since it shows gtx 1050 in information window but sadly doesn’t give me any more options in video output.

When I use the “xrandr” command in the terminal I can see my laptop screen and HDMI-2, anyone know how I can make it force to use the HDMI-2 instead of the laptop one? Thanks.

When I upgraded to the latest beta version again, I didn’t get HDMI but my audio outputs (the ones labeled with HDMI) were gone. I went back to stable because the beta version wasn’t working for me with actual emulation

MelonLover I’ve been having all the same issues you listed above with nvidia showing in information but no hdmi output. It was resolved by updating to today’s release of 34! Fingers crossed it works for you too. Looks like new nvidia driver did the trick! I had both nvidia options enabled in boot config. Restarted and hmdi out came up in video output but no image on tv. I Restarted again and it worked. I then had to go into audio and change to hdmi as no sound first time round. Worked a treat after restarting once more

Hi, I’m having the same issue on my laptop.

3.1 works perfect with nvidia drivers and booting from a 16gb usb 3.0 stick.

but no hdmi option when external monitor connected.

Same problem here with version 33, try everything but no success. Not displayed on external monitor via HDMI. Within the menu the HDMI-I option is not displayed, only the notebook screen… help please.

If you can use xrandr to switch the output, then you could also just make a script which does it for you to run at startup.
In reality though Batocera uses xrandr to detect all the available outputs in the first place so that should not be necessary. There is probably some critical piece of information missing here that would lead to the solution. Try writing up an issue report about it on the github and have it properly looked into, providing the support file along the way.
