Batocera Won't Use SSD

Here is my setup: I am booting from a USB drive (no issues booting) and want to use my internal SSD for roms. This SSD has Windows 10 on it. I tried changing the settings to my SSD once batocera boots up but it isn’t working. Crazy thing was that is used to work then it just stopped one day. I have tried re-flashing batocera onto the USB and re-assigning the SSD as the preferred destination. It saved the settings in .conf but once booted, batocera still only wants to use the internal storage on the USB. Any advice would be appreciated.

If Batocera’s built-in tools in ES can’t select the drive for you, have you checked out https://wiki.batocera.org/store_games_on_a_second_usb_sata_drive#manual_external_storage_configuration_with_batocera-bootconf ?

Atari tried that and was unsuccessful. Ultimately I just went ahead and bought a 256gb usb 3.1 drive and that pretty much fixed my issue. Worked on this on and off for an hour or two at a time for week and got tired of beating my head against a wall. My guess is that either some registries got changed in windows not allowing the drive to be accessed (after some windows update), OR the old 8gb thumb drive was the issue. Appreciate the response though!

Maybe it was a power issue, then? Some portable SSDs require a lot more power when being used as a partition by Batocera, some of which fail.

There’s also the possibility that the SSD is incompatible with the USB port/computer in general. You can find out more about what happens when you plug it in by going into the console and typing dmesg, plugging it in, and typing dmesg again.
