Viewing pdf game manuals

Hey all,

I’ve seen a video demonstrating how to view game manuals from the main launcher ( which was introduces with Batocera 5.27.

I have the latest release of Batocera installed in my Pi4 but I can’t find the option to view the manuals. In the video it is done by selecting a rom, opening up the options with the select button and choose view pdf manual but I don’t have that option.

is this something that was removed in later versions or am I missing something. I scraped the manuals using the included scraper and my game list shows the icon that the manual is there but I can’t find any option to open/view it.

you can check to see if the manuals have actually loaded in (i’m not sure where they are stored, but I assume also in the /media folder of the related /roms/(system))
You could also open the gamelist.xml to see where the manuals are being stored relative to the game ROM.

I figured it out in the meantime. the new method of accessing the manual is hold the A key when loading up a game. There is the option to view the manual and everything works fine.

I got confused because in the video I linked the option to view the manual was accessed via the menu you open when you press select.

Whether or not it will actually be able to display the pdf is another matter. Lots of white squares.

I was confused when I read @Timsmo answer, because I thought that I need to hold “A” key while launching game with “B” key. I realized that you play with XBOX/XBOX compatible controller, and I use SNES original controller where default launch button is “B”. So I figured out that I just need to hold “B” key :)

marcowy Some users opt to refer to their face buttons as north/south/east/west to avoid this confusion. Many just use the labels on the controllers in their hands, though.
