Old i386 machine failed to run Batocera 29, 30

Hi,

I tried Batocera 29-x86 and 30-x86 on a Pentium M CPU (i386). The first boot resizing the partition on SD card seems ok, The second boot shows Batocera logo screen, then the screen goes black forever, while CAPS Lock key still have response. Batocera got stuck here.

I tried the same SD card to another x64 CPU (after partition resizing on i386 machine but failing to run past logo screeen), Batocera works fine on the machine.

Got any advice? Thanks.

Try the older version (5.23 and 5.25)

I have tried 5.25, 5.26 and 5.27.

5.25 and 5.26 both work, while 5.27 not. Besides, if update from 5.25 to 30, Batocera won’t work.

It seems that some specifications have changed from 5.27.

If 30

In the batocera folder

In the description of batocera-boot.conf

From # intel-i965-driver = true

If you set intel-i965-driver = true

It may work, but

It slows down

The color of the screen may be strange.

It seems better to use it in versions prior to 5.26.

Thanks. The modification to “batocera-boot.conf” you mentioned does work, although my GPU is Intel 915GM, not 965. On Batocera 27, which did not work on my laptop, after the modification, I can operate the Batocera UI. As to the speed, I have not measured.

I also tried to set “intel-i9i5-driver = true”, hoping it may be useful. In the end, it seems making no sense to Batocera 27 and I only see black screen.

The GPU is Intel 915GM.

I compared Batocera 26 and 27 on github, only this modification is related to Intel 915GM: https://github.com/batocera-linux/batocera.linux/commit/4db17ff443b08a58dedb854fc4a9ea4774f5b195

I suspect this modification does not work for 915GM.

Developers please review any modifications related to x86 CPU and Intel 915GM GPU between Batocera 26 and 27. The change list is huge and I am not familiar with GITHUB tools, so my search is destined to be in-accurate. The keywords I am looking for is i915, mesa, iris. I am trying to find some changes related to my search, but it’s beyond my ability to verify the modification.

version 5.26 5.27 and v29 are the best working for me on newer PC
