This is Batocera, not Recalbox.
Assuming you meant Batocera anyway, you don’t configure your controls by editing batocera.conf. Instead, you should use the CONFIGURE A CONTROLLER menu in EmulationStation.
As for HDMI connection, have you tried switching the VIDEO OUTPUT setting in SYSTEM SETTINGS? You may need to connect all the ports to see the option.
