N64 emulation is awful v32

I played a few n64 games on the mupen64plus-next core, and the games are pretty much unplayable. I’ve set the resolution to 640X480 and the lag is still terrible.

And the other two emulators don’t even start the game. Does anyone know a fix? Or it’s just that the n64 cores are just bad?

Pi 4 isn’t too powerful.
N64 emulation is wildly sporadic depending on which game you’re emulating.

Try an easy-to-run game like Super Mario 64, that runs at near full-speed for me on the Pi, except on the parallel core.

He said in v32, mostly of our n64 runs very well on v29, this problem whas a thing when you guys decided to use a 64 bits system.

Atari I find the fact that the pi4 being not powerful enough hard to believe, as I recall when I played starfox 64 on the retropie frontend on the same pi4 system and it ran well.

@Atari It is not true that the PI4 is not powerful. There are problems with the 64bit version. If i use Batocera v29 everything is perfect. If on the PI4 I put another distro (Retropie), the N64 goes well. The problem happened from the V31 onwards.

Really? from my testing demanding N64 games were always slow on the Pi 4, I had not known other people had different experiences. I guess, take their anecdotes over mine!

Atari You should also try the other versions of Batocera and try the other distro. At that point you too will see that there is a problem with the latest versions. Our comments are to report that there are problems that unfortunately are ignored. Example: PI4 audio problems in distorted audio headphone, Model 2 is no longer good on PC, graphic gurglars on PSX, PSP, N64. Hope is that someone understands the problem and best V33.

Please developers, listen to our feedback, you guys really need to continue or release a 32bits edition using v29 as BASE.

This thread gave me pause when I was thinking about putting together a Pi based games system, but the result has been great. With v32 of Batocera most N64 games (GoldenEye, Zelda, MarioKart) are very playable and much better than my RG351P - MarioTennis is one that runs badly and stutters a lot.

I’m using a 4Gb Pi4B - because the cheaper models had sold out at the PiHut(!) MarioKart 64 works with 2 players, although there are some slowdowns when there are other moving objects on the tracks (there’s a level with cars and buses you have to avoid).

piuser86 Trust me, try with BATOCERA V29 and you will be happy.

Mario Kart 64 works perfect for me.

now since v33 released, will the parallel core come back to batocera? because the libretro mupen core is still laggy on rpi4.

Is there a “fix” for this besides downgrading. Just dug the Pi4 / 8gb out of the closet and got it set up for the kids (and me)

Flyinace2000 Ended up trying a different emulator. That seemed to clean things up a bit when using Mario Kart 64. Kids had fun!
