I worked it out. Batocera not booting from USB. Works perfectly when installed and run from internal drive. Also backed up any data/roms etc before clean installing Batocera.
Installing latest Batocera on intenal HDD/SSD.
Note: This will erase all data and install a clean copy of Batocera.
Required Software:
- Latest Batocera Installation IMG

- Rufus (The Reliable USB Formatting Utility)

- Windows 10 Bootable Image such as Hiren’s BootCD PE x64 (v1.0.2)

- RoadKill’s Disk Image software.

- 16gb+ USB stick. (Installation requires 11gb space)
After downloading required software
Extract Batocera download
Run Rufus on Windows.
Device: USB stick. ISO Select: HBCD_PE_x64.iso. Partition Scheme: MBR then start to create bootable Windows PE USB
Once completed copy extracted batocera IMG and DiskImage setup to USB. Then safely remove USB.
Insert USB into computer you want to install Batocera and boot from USB.
Once windows has booted to desktop.
If any partitions exist on the drive you wish to install Batocera. Run Disk Management and delete all patitions. Leave drive unpartitioned.
Close Disk Management.
Install and run Roadkill’s Disk Image software from USB.
Write To: Select unpartitioned Physical Disk. Source File: Select batocera IMG file from USB. Then Start.
- Once image has been written to drive. Shutdown PC. Remove USB. Restart PC and boot from HDD to complete Batocera installation.
There will now be two partitions on the Batocera installation drive. A smaller 6gb boot partition for the OS and a larger User Data partition containing the remaining free space.
