Connect the SNES controls GPIO

I'm migrating from Recalbox to Batocera, but I could not connect the SNES controls directly to the GPIO Raspberry Pi 3, is it possible?

teles controllers that use gamecon drivers (nes, snes, n64, etc) connected by GPIO don't work.. Work on recalbox, but not on Batocera.. Maybe driver problem but I don't know more.. I was a recalbox user and controller worked, now same hw/config on batocera but no luck..
@lucianogardim nes/snes usb controller is a good idea, but it is not the same 'feeling' of my genuine 1986 nes controller!😉

However in my opinion Batocera is better than Recalbox, also without nes controllers

The oficial documentation, say:

7 - GPIO controllers

You can connect your arcade joysticks and buttons directly on the raspberry GPIOs. See GPIO controllers

You can connect original controllers from PSOne, Nes, Snes, Megradrive and other. See DB9 and Gamecon controllers.

But the link "DB9 and Gamecon controllers" not work. 🙁

Find for "Usb Super Nintendo Snes Joystick" in Google. Works fine.

@jthemad it makes me think that's possibly related to quircks.
i will try something and make it test to you.

i've done a special version here for rpi3 to try to fix quirks (and then, some controllers),
i don't know if your issue is related to quirks.
i've put c64 for rpi3 too, i need feedbacks on it too.
i've no tested at all this image (quickly the previous one however)

My project uses a SNES casing to use the original controls.

Following the installation and configuration of Github, the only response I got from the control was the arrow "up" by pressing button B in the initial menu.

you can upgrade with :

you would require some software to read the data from the GPIO pins (a driver) which could be interpreted by the Emulator. petRockBlog (RetroPie) has done some work in such matters and has available info (including schematics, wiring diagrams and software drivers) for such devices on his blog. I believe they are also available to buy 'Pre Built'.
