Problem Beelink U59 + Batocera

Hello,

I bought a Beelionk U59 mini pc (characteristic of this Beelink U59: Mini PC Windows 10 with Jasper N5095 (up to 2.9 GHz) 8GB DDR4 + 256GB M.2 SSD/Dual HDMI/WiFi 5 / BT4.0 / LAN / 4K).

I want to run only batocera.

I flashed the Batocera x64 image for PC on an external 2TB HDD that I installed in sata connection in my Beelink U59.

I boot on the HDD, Batocera launches, the screen lights up, an image of batocera is displayed then black screen which remains.

After doing some research, I found a post from someone with the same problem:

He mentions a solution but without more details, could someone help me to run Batocera on this mini PC?

I have no advanced programming knowledge if he does image editing.

Problem is just that the device is so new, the Linux kernel Batocera uses is yet to support it.
Basically, v34 should support it out of the box. But you can use wizzo’s custom image in the meantime to boot from SATA.

Wizzo has made an instruction set to follow in order to install it: https://callan.io/install.txt
I’m not sure about the particulars though, but hopefully that’s enough to get you going. I really would advise you to get a Discord account so you could ask him if you need any help with setting it up.

If it doesn’t work, would you advise me what PC configuration to run the emulation of Gamecube, Dreamcast or even PS2 on a mini PC of similar size to the Beelink U59 in a budget of around 200/250€ (225/280 USD) ?

I will add my 2.5 inch 2TB sata HDD for Batocera.

I’ve just been informed that the image which was tested earlier is in fact https://www.dropbox.com/s/jvf1wnu713yylhi/batocera-x86_64-33-20220122-beelink-u59.img.gz?dl=0 , so give that one a shot if the one from the instructions does not work.
If you want to go up to PS2, I would recommend getting a unit with a dedicated GPU, which is a rarity with ultra small form factor units. But, if you’re only aiming for GameCube, a lot of the mini PCs on this page will do it: https://wiki.batocera.org/usff_nuc_mini_pcs Check for “6th gen” and above.

Thank you for your posts and hints it is really useful.

So I recently bought a Beelink SER H3750H built with an AMD Ryzen 7. The main purpose is to setup a dual boot:

Keep the default Windows 11 I have on the default SSD nvme
Install Batocera on a SATA HDD Toshiba 1TB which I bought separately

I am still struggling to make Batocera properly working on the HDD:

I tried to install the image @Atari you shared while following https://callan.io/install.txt => Impossible to boot from the HDD partition, it is not even listed on the BIOS options

I tried to flash my HDD drive from Windows through BalenaETCHER using the image inthe dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jvf1wnu713yylhi/batocera-x86_64-33-20220122-beelink-u59.img.gz?dl=0 => Now the HDD is detected and I can boot on it the problem is that the loading time is long, it freeze on the purple screen (where you can see the version on bottom) for at least 2m, then no game is working the emulationstation got stuck if I try to play to something or try “F1”

Can you please help me to install Batocera on my Beelink, also it would be great if I can do it on a bootable partition and avoid to flash my 1TB internal HDD (ETCHER does not allow to flash on a partition, by default it erease all the drive :-( )

Instructions are for the Beelink U59 only, sorry. I recommend you jump into the Discord server to see if any devs would be willing to look into the strange bootloaders that Beelink seem to be using.
Just like with the SBCs, it seems that we need to make custom solutions for each of these devices, instead of just using ordinary x86_64 practices.
